Kettlebell Shoulder Injury and recovery

After several years training with Kettlebells and building up a good base, I suddenly started experiencing pain in my shoulder.
A PT diagnosed it as inflammation or tear of the Supraspinatus tendon. The injury has sapped most of my arm strength and the recommendations for recovery discourage lifting, especially any overhead lifts.
At this point apart from the specific PT prescribed training, I am doing light KB swings and Goblet Squats, but that is about all.
I would like to know if anyone has experience with this type of injury and what exercises were helpful.

@KB4Life, welcome to StrongFirst.

The distinction between the two things your PT said it could be is significant - I think your next stop is an orthopedist or other medical professional who can order diagnostic imaging and provide a more certain diagnosis. I would be doing anything that could possibly worsen your condition without knowing more about what is wrong with you.

Steve is 100% correct.
I have had one shoulder surgically repaired, and I am actively collecting the whole set, as I have to have the other one done soon, so it is a subject that is near and dear to me.

The best course of action is to see an orthopedic specialist.
I had one of the best shoulder docs in the business. He knew right away what was wrong, but he still confirmed with both a CT and MRI.

Pretty much the only way to know for sure is to have a scan. The shoulder is a complicated joint. Many things to go wrong.

You may not want to hear this, but you conceivably could be making your condition worse by continuing to train without a proper diagnosis.

Hello,

+1 for all said above.
Could your doc tell you what exercises you can / cannot do ?

Maybe some elastic band can be worth considering as they are very progressive and also works flexibility.

I believe it is better to stop training when we are injured. See a doc to have pro / cons exercises and then have rest. Training while injured is the surest way to make things worse than before.

Kind regards,

Band pull-aparts and light halos helped me recover from a couple shoulder injuries and surgeries. Best advice I received was, "I wish I would have had surgery sooner." I'll second that and recommend getting it repaired first if necessary though.

Follow through with a Dr./Ortho visit to get a diagnosis and recommendations while you are working with your Physical Therapist

Any exercise recommendation not from them at this time is inappropriate
