I'm trying to get a gauge on which kettlebells are going to be best for me. I am somewhat new to kettlebells.

I use the Rogue Arder at my gym which I like but I was recently up visiting a friend in Canada and we worked out with Bells of Steel kettlebells. They were an excellent bell also. My friend says they are getting pretty big in Canada and are shipping to the states now too. Then I looked at Dragon's Door because they are meant to be quite popular. Am I missing something with them? They seem like a pretty ugly looking basic bell.

Which bells to people generally like most? And what are some of the main things to look for outside of balance and knurl?

For cast iron: Rogue (their own, not the Aders), KettlebellKings, Perform Better, Metrixx/KettlebellUSA or DD. You need to decide based on price, shipping cost etc. or look if you can try them out anywhere and see which one you like best. I'd say you can't go wrong with any of those. The Bells of Steel KBs look like they come out of the exact same chinese factory as the Rogues and KettlebellKings, so they should be good aswell.

For steel/competition: If I'd be living in the US or Canada, I'd only go with the comp bells from KettlebellKings, because they have an opening in the bottom, meaning they are cast in one piece without fillers like in all the comp bells from other companies. The fillers get loose and start to rattle inside the KB. It's not bad for the KB, but very annoying.

EDIT: I had to use "DD" to refer to the Drag0n Door KBs, because otherwise it wouldn't show the words in my post...really? I know it's a rival company and there have been some not so nice things in the past, but really!?!?!...

I found Bells of Steel after I bought most all my bells. I wish I had bought all my bells through them. They are cheaper and much better quality than most of my bells. They ship free to major Canadian cities. I have their 80kg and 92kg, to finish my collection. Great quality, price, and service.

I am very happy with the Perform Better bells sold on this web site. I just bought my second one and will be gradually replacing my collection of DD bells with these - the handles are round, the finish seems a good balance of smoothness, and I find everything to like and nothing to dislike about them.

A number of other manufacturers/vendors use one piece casting without fillers. I have some KettlebellsUSA Paradigm Pro Elite competition style bells that are made this way.

Ya Bells of Steel use that mold too it looks like. Here is the link. It explains it all in the description.

I'm basically sure I'm gonna go with them. The prices on their website are in Canadian dollars so they have the best price also.

@Walt Grayson The Canadian Dollar is about $.75 American. Saving 25% seems unbeatable to me. I can vouch for quality and service from Bells of Steel.

Sorry, I wasn't up to date :)
Seems like more companies use this method now. I think Wolverson are still the only ones using that method here in Europe.
I'd love to have the variety of options you got over there in the USA and Canada.

Thanks Geoff. So I ended up ordering with bells of steel. I am pretty excited. I called them and actually spoke to the owner which was cool.

They had a kb starter pack which was perfect. It comes with 16kg and 20kg bells and an ebook.

Also if anyone wants to shop there you get a free t-shirt with codeword: likeabos

So I got
16kg bell
20kg bell
ebook
bamboo thread shirt
all for about $130 (I don't know the exact conversion as the site is in Canadian dollars)

@Walt Grayson I called and orderd a 80kg and 92kg they were about $640 with free shipping. I asked if I could get a price. Why not. They sold me both for $500. I received them in less than a week. I was very happy, and would gladly recommend them to anyone.

The Canadian Dollar is about .75.
