Hey guys

I was wondering how to implement loaded carries in the context of the Easy Strength Routine. Dan John says to vary the load en distance every time, but I don't think we can do this until failure 5x / week so at which intensity do you guys perform this exercise. Just start at 55% like the other movements and go heavier on the 5 - 3 - 2 and Singles days ?

Do you guys change these up frequently as well with other forms of loaded carries ? (Fat Gripz, Rack Holds,...)

I do farmers walk on a particular route (80m?) around my gym as warm up, attending on average every second day. I use a variable load, mostly waved. At the moment I can get around without stopping carrying 24kg in each hand, so I commonly wave 16, 20, 24, 28 with occasional 12 and 32. Usually I do one set but sometimes two or three depending on whatever else I have planned. I never do the same weight/set twice in a row

You shouldn't go to failure anyway, definitely not on the ES route. Loaded carries are not different than any other means of training for that matter.

Lately when I carry I use the Cook drill (waiter -> rack ->suitcase) and follow the Gray' guideline to use the bell I can BU clean properly. This varies the load automatically, reduces it on your weak days and increase on your strong days. Time and distance vary along as you go for 80% with the load. I sometime time the sessions, mostly just not overthink it and do it. I suggest you give it a try.

Here and there I do heavy farmer carries (90% BW) and clock a few legs of ~1:30 min (again, roughly 75% - 80%). Heavy suitcase carries are also great.
