Anyone interested in joining me? There are only a few spots left for a local USAPL meet in central NJ on Sunday, November 12.

This is the weekend I had planned to go to Florida for the WNPF world's but I will be doing this meet instead. It's a local meet, which means I won't be able to attempt to break the USAPL American record, but it will be good practice for same day weigh-in, and also for needing to be 1.5 kg less in bodyweight. The meet director informs that there will be a NJ meet at which I can attempt to break the record next June, so that's the plan.

Anyway, if you want to register - there were six spots left when I registered last night - here's the link.

The meet has exactly 1 open spot left. It had 6 open spots when I registered a day and a half ago.

Yesterday's training was simple - a few things on the rings, a few 1-arm pushups on a 4" box, and deadlifts as follows: 295 lbs. conventional, 3 sets of 3 using what I call 95% touch-and-go. The idea is that you keep 95% of the tension between reps, touching the bar to the ground but trying to keep most of the weight still in your hands. First set: double overhand. Second set: least-favored over/under grip: Third set: favorite over/under grip. Video is of third set, so reps 7, 8 and 9 of the session.

Good job! I like how your hips stay back and up and shins keep nearly vertical. On the first rep your knees come forward a bit which is understandable, even if not always desirable. But I'd be wary about bending the arms, it looks like you lose a bit of the triceps flexion (if my English is correct) when your knees come forward.

I have to be careful about overly straightening my arms - both my elbows hyperextend a little. Thus I cannot really flex my triceps hard as most people can, or I get elbow problems that way. I do bend them a bit before I start - part of my initial lowering of my hips, and definitely something I should _not_ do, but they get straightened before the bar moves.

I have short legs, long arms and a long torso, and I'm also much stronger in my back than in my scrawny legs, and I think you see all that in my DL form. My hips are where they need to be for the best use of the strengths and weaknesses that I have.

I may try, during my next off-cycle, some barbell front squats to see if that will give me more push with lower hips at the beginning, but the finish of the lift is easy for me so I must admit it's not a huge concern of mine right now.

Thank you for the feedback.

I recently did a back squat heavy cycle when I didn't do deadlifts at all. Afterwards I tested my deadlift a couple of times. I don't think I lost anything. After the squat cycle my deadlift start feels much more explosive and easier. My weak point has always been at the knees and it's exaggerated now. The extra speed from the start helps, of course, but the strength difference between the parts of the movements is clearer now.

It looks like we're at opposite ends of our personal deadlift proficiency. I think the squats should help your DL start. I'm not sure if I should just do some regular deadlifts or something specific for the later part.

When I do PL style back squats, my DL progresses with much less direct work. I think front squats help my DL start, and so do straddle DL's and behind the back DL's.

Video looking good Steve.
I saw that your name on the Iron Gobbler Roster has no USAPL# listed. Hoping that's an oversight and you've got it covered?
I'm feeling strong and looking to do Delaware proud . Looks like we're going to be the only Master 3 there,, I'll be in the 105kg class.

Looking forward to meeting ya!

@Carl in Dover, I emailed the organizer and asked if I could buy a card at the meet or should do it online now - I'm waiting for him to reply to my email.

I'll be a 66 kg lifter, G-d willing and the creek don't rise, for the first time in my life.
