I've been attempting to get some aerobic work in with a dodgy hip recently.
The best results have come from jump rope intervals of 30s work to 30s rest. Sprinting as fast as possible when working.

If you're having trouble with running give the rope a try.

Seconded. I'm having a (forced) break from running and have returned to jumping rope. It really is an old faithful. Cheap, compact, versatile, seriously underrated.

I prefer to do fartleks - set a timer, and just go by feel, mixing sprints with easy skipping.

I have always wanted to do Buddy Lee's jump rope program.
Maybe this summer I'll give it a shot.
