Hi guys

I tend to get a few weeks into a strength / KB / performance based program and then change course for a more traditional bodybuilding program and the aesthetics. It sounds crazy when I type it out, bc I'm not a vain person, but it's happened a few times now, even though intellectually I know that the strong first / KB physique, combined with low bodyfat, probably is quite aesthetic.

Anyway, I was thinking it may help to see some examples of the SF physique. Would any of you guys be able to share any pics?

Thanks !

@SMason22 I initially trained in a more power bodybuilding fashion so I pretty much always take this into account. My advice is to pick a program and then add in some high rep hypertrophy work to areas that aren’t being hit as well with the program you’re currently on. Right now, I snatch and press a lot for my main program, so I also do some push ups, curls, and leg work at the end of my workouts to maintain/improve hypertrophy.

Well, if I can indulge my ego for a minute here...

A few years ago, my wife was on a girls night out with some friends at a bar, and they were watching a fight card (at my age "a few years" might have been 10, since I believe Oscar De La Hoya was on the card and he retired in 2009). My wife's friends were oohing and aahing over the bodies of the fighters. But my wife said, "Steve has a better body than those guys."

At least that's what she told me ;-).

Instagram is pretty handy for observing training and results. Follow #strongfirst and there's plenty to find.

@SMason22 - The problem is that in StrongFirst people use barbells, kettlebells, calisthenics and other things. Also, not everyone follows the same training program or nutrition plan. So I don't think a "SF physique" really exists. But I can speak from experience that about 3 months ago I was weighing 228lbs (6' tall), looked chubby and weak. Doing Simple & Sinister daily for 90 days, along with eating smarter, got me to 206lbs. I look stronger but more importantly I am stronger.

When I look at a SF instructor, I can tell they are strong and don't just look it.

Can you spell out what you have in mind for owning the 24?

I'd say being able to perform the SFG 1 skills with a certain weight without struggling could equate to "owning" that size.

  • Swing (10 repetitions each side)
  • Double Clean (5 repetitions)
  • Press (5 repetitions each side)
  • Double Front Squat (5 repetitions)
  • Snatch (5 repetitions each side)
  • Get up (1 repetition each side)

Screenshot_20180909-073644_Instagram~2.jpg I spent 4 decades wanting to look like someone else. Im a (weaker) version of Macek and wanted to look like Sokol or Zonin. I finally accepted being the best version of me. Linebackers, SEALs and ballerinas are all aesthetically pleasing. Train to be a functional athlete and don't eat like a child. Being the best version of what God intended for you is the best aesthetic.

Consider what is not aesthetic: bedridden with a herniated disc because "no pain, no gain"; crutches because your ACL couldn't handle a game of tag with your kids; hunchback because the only exercise your shoulders know is bench; having the daily gracefulness of Frankenstein because severe DOMS is your only friend.

Whether you were built as a male bull elephant, a silverback or cheetah, move well, move strong, move gracefully. Just be the best version of you.

I can't claim the SF physique, which seems to run quite the variety around here anyway due to SF actually having a lot of potential variation.

I have changed my training around and focus on (for me) best transfer to daily work, using mostly offset weighted pole and sandbags.

If you train hard and eat right the aesthetics take care of themselves.

Where can I find more music like that? Reminds me a bit of throat singing but I like the consistent droning quality to it - I can see why someone might train with that playing

For what it's worth, 32kg swings and 32/40kg get-ups have done a lot for my physique but I've found that including the biceps curls at the bottom of the warm-up goblet squats, especially with a heavier bell (32kg for me), can really help 'fill-in the gaps'.

If I didn't eat quite so much bread and peanut butter, I'd probably have a six-pack to be proud of.
