Hi everone.

First posting on the forum.

I have been work on S&S for 5 months now and am currently on 24kg swings and get ups. Feeling really strong and progressing well. I am working with a SFG coach to improve my tecknique. I am tending to squat a bit in my swing. So am working on deadlifts to clean it up.

The day after a good session I get real sharp pains on my outher thighs/ITD area when I stand up from a chair or get out the car. It eases up straight away but it’s very uncomfortable.

Any pointers on how I can deal with this. I do stretch off after training and use a foam roller.

Rob.

Have you discussed this with your SFG coach?

I have been doing a bit of a squat rather than a hinge in the swing so maybe the short range squat is creating a type of repetitive strain injury/ inflammation.

Just interested if others have come across this.

It's on both sides?

Disclaimer: I am not a Dr. nor are most who post here.

Unusual to see bi-lateral things. Usually one side or the other.
Common prescription is rest. You can try ice, heat, wrapping (voodoo floss) OTC anti-inflammatories. (If you are into such things)

But if it persists you might want to consult a medical professional. Preferably one who has sports injury experience.

Have you tried trigger point massage? I used to get similar aches and it turned out it was some spot or spots in the glutes, massage with a ball helped, not so much with a roller. But it sounds a bit odd if you have it on both sides.

Yes I agree odd being both sides. That’s why I think it’s a technique issue, maybe the short squat I talked about in the swing hinge. I will work on my hinge technique, Ice and look at trigger points.

I will not be beaten!

Well after some more research I have discovered it’s my tensor fasciae latae (TFL) on both sides. It could well be as a result of poor hip and lower back mobility. Both of which I am working on. There great material online about trigger point release etc. Thanks for the discussion I got what I wanted.

Internet diagnoses=bad medicine

But TFLs is at least a good place to be looking.

Hi Rickyw

Totally agree with your statement about the internet diagnosis and as a result have an physiophytherapist appointment today.

I think there’s something more going on then just overworked TFL’S as it’s bilateral and it’s unlikely this is the only thing that needs to be addressed.
