Wallet, keys, and phone. Sometimes a flashlight if I think there might be a use for it.

When I was younger I always carried a pocket knife but eventually realized I never used it.

I used to be fascinated with the idea of carrying stuff so I'd be prepared for different things. This was over 30 years ago, long before I knew it was a 'thing' or that there was a name for it, but I never used any of the stuff I carried so kind of lost interest.

Tactical pen, and/or knife (Fairbairn-Applegate combat folder), and/or monkey fist, and my "Seven Stars" (head, shoulders, elbows, hands, hips, knees, feet).

Typically wallet, keys and phone. Those three are something I always check I have with me when I close the door. Sometimes I leave the wallet at home. I suppose I leave the phone last. I have also frequently carried a notebook and a pen, but not always. There was a time I carried a knife but I had so little use for it I quit. Come to think of it, I've also typically carried some tissue paper with me and it has often been useful and it's something worth always having with me.

I only carry what I know I'm going to use every day. That's wallet (a zippered nylon pouch for my cards -- most "minimalist" wallets are bulkier than I prefer), keys, and phone. Plus, usually a pen and a folded piece of paper with to-do/shopping lists.

I don't like having things in my pockets or hanging from my belt, so I keep it to a minimum. I even wish my phone was smaller. The number of times I've wished I had [whatever item] with me is basically zero.

I work from home mostly, giving music lessons and training people, so I carry my phone if I can remember to do that, and that's it.

When I'm out, it's usually to play and I take a backpack with whatever music I need, and if I'm playing something other than piano or organ, my instrument (most often a guitar or a double bass). And a credit card holder and some cash, and my phone.

Phone, keys and a small card carrier. I ditched my wallet a while back and cut down to a card holder that I keep a few dollars, drivers license, spare truck key and debit card. I carry a small notebook with pen for meetings. I wear tactical/cargo pants and securely, evenly spread everything through the pockets.

Monkey fist are not very popular here. In USA we use padlock inside of a sock for the same basic self defense tool.

I always keep my back left pocket stocked with napkins / tissues. It really is an every day item

The one I have (steel ball) looks more stylish than padlock inside a sock :) - and was very cheap, like $2 or so.

I recently made (knotting, weaving?) one of these, wrapped around a ball of tape for a cat toy.

Most places in the US, at least along the Atlantic coast these are unlawful to carry specifically by name, "slung shot". Going back to the days when shore-going sailors carried them fashioned from individual grape or canister shot balls.

A nice thing to have in a pocket and you can keep your keys on the other end!

A question for the EDC knife folks. I'm transitioning from bush to bad city neighborhoods alot and am trying to decide on whether to get a four inch knife or the six inch? Both come in Bowie and Tanto style. When in the bush I usually have my trusty hatchet/tomahawk just in case. A knife is nice to have too though.

On my person, G2 pen, readers, fenix ld12 flashlight, folding pocket knife, keys, headphones with mic, work phone, personal phone and wallet.

Then there is a pile of EDC things in my messenger bag.

What are the laws/regs? For EDC I generally go for smaller rather than larger - size is not hugely important if you're talking about SD.

I'd chose based on what works best for the day to day stuff you use it for.

I'm not trained in knife fighting tactics/defense. Not many people are, so unless you practice the use of the tool how effective is it.

To be honest, when you take this Nebraska kid that spends most of his time in the woods into a rough neighborhood in Portlandia, my strategy is knowing who and what is around me(Situational Awareness).

Always having an exit strategy. I might be happier with pepper spray than a 9" blade.

Just my thoughts.
