Pavel in Q&D before stating that we should train fasted for maximal mitochondrial benefits and overall health and endurance benefits.

Looks like I’ll have to start getting up early to workout.

How many people have been training this way already?

Me. It works well. I just dont notice any difference between being fasted and not nowadays. Except for hunger.

I did last fall with heavy A+A snatching. I was hungrier (was already doing IF) and gained weight, but it was skewed toward lean mass.

It takes some getting used to if you are used to a slow morning and a big breakfast.

On the Tim Ferriss podcast Pavel reports following the Warrior Diet (intermittent fasting) by Ori Hofmekler and training fasted in the morning on the beach, after coffee and meditation.

I tend to train better fasted (or 'semi-fasted', if that's even a thing). 'Refuelling' after doing something intense always feels better than 'fuelling up' before doing something intense.

I've never been so hungry that it's messed-up my ability to do pull-ups, kettlebell swings or squats but I've definitely almost made myself throw up by eating before training.

I haven't tried real long fasts, like several days, but anything shorter I don't notice a difference in how I train fasted vs having eaten before.

And what kind of fast are we talking about? OMAD, 18/6, warrior type diet? As per the other forum discussion, what about the need for leucine/protein? I'm still doing an OMAD type diet and everything seems to be alright, but I keep thinking what if I had the protein pulses during the day? Would I be better off? As it stands, it's so easy and convenient to just have a coffee in the morning, brew a tea for the drive, and just toss some water and mineral water in my bag and go.

I've been training fasted since the very beginning. Not because I'm a forward thinking person who knows about things like mitochondria, I've just never been a breakfast kind of person and usually train first thing in the morning. I've never had any issues with it.

Thank you for all the replies. It’s been a long time since I’ve done AM workouts (two decades?) but I recall feeling famished afterwards. I I will plan to give it a shot and see how it goes in the coming months.

Sure, some workouts make me a starving lunatic afterwards, like lots of heavy squats. But it doesn't mean I should have eaten something before training, it's just the nature of the beast.

I'm not doubting the science in terms of health benefits. Nor have I read Q&D yet. However, I find my "gym performance", if there is such a thing, is better after eating.

Also, training fasted implies training early in the day, right? I dont like loading my spine too early in the day. Plus I work a typical Mon-Fri, business hours, job. Which is less accommodating, for me, for very early workouts.

I am curious to read about this in Q&D. However, I am not sure if I am willing to make this compromise, even knowing my way may not be ideal.

Regards,

Eric

I used to train in a fasted state, not on purpose but because I had to do so first thing after I finished meditating.
I was also at my all time lightest weight as an adult, under 155lbs.
I don't know how well this works if you're trying to put on mass, other than that I didn't notice any negatives once I got used to it.

Me. For years.

I'm also a fasted trainer, I enjoy fasted hikes too. I generally do 1-3 hour hikes, so I'm not at risk of anything too bad by doing these. I just feel clean and light, fueled with energy and not weighed down.

I hope click bait titles such as the one for this thread don’t become a thing on this forum. They are on another forum I used to frequent and it’s annoying as hell.

Say what the thread is about so I can decide if I want to click on it or not. Don’t just tease.

EDIT: the thread title was originally just “I am appalled...”

Q&D and Fasted training was added to the title after my comment.

Following 16/8 IF protocol for some time. Feel good after early morning-on-fast workout.
