Greeting all,

This is my first thread after couple of years following this great community and other community. But i am always attached here.

I own many of Pavel books and I own Q&D. Saying that, after many hours of reading and working out with kettlebells. I have couple of questions that need expert answers:-

1) since the main philosophy of SF is to be strong first, why not follow barbell program like Starting Strength to get strong ? All recommendations are referring to S&S!!!

2) can you get strong with following S&S only? I know the return of investment is high when it comes to endurance and WTH effect. But what about strength? Dr. Craig mention in his article HIRT vs HIIT the following “Separate strength from conditioning. Do not think HIRT as a way to build strength. You must be strong first.”

3) Can “Anti Glycolysis Training” method be applied to Barbell training? If yes, how this can be applied.

Thanks to all.

We have several books devoted primarily or exclusively to barbell training, and a barbell 1-day course, and a barbell instructor certification, all of which reflect our approach to strength and the barbell. There is no need for another approach.

The hallmarks of StrongFirst training are slow grinds for low repetitions and ballistic lifts for higher repetitions. There are many definitions of fitness and of strength; our experience has been that the above-mentioned combination is a winning one for improving both strength and conditioning.

You can become stronger by training ballistics with relatively heavy weights. Such training, while not endurance work in the traditional sense of the word, will improve endurance nonetheless.

S&S includes one strength exercise and one ballistic exercise. If you don't think the getup portion of S&S will improve your strength, I recommend you use a heavier weight. :)

Yes. Any training that keeps the time under tension short enough, which may or may not be how you happen to train with a barbell, should keep glycolysis to a minimum.

You're very welcome, @Nasser M. And if I haven't said so already, welcome to the StrongFirst forum.

Please check the schedule on our web site, which is updated as new course and certifications are added. You can also look for certified instructors, searching by country. E.g., I know we have people in Lebanon, in Israel, and in the United Arab Emirates, in Qatar, in Kuwait, and I'm sure there are others as well. An excellent start would be for you to work, one-on-one, with a StrongFirst Certified Instructor.
