I’m following a PTTP wave cycle trying to improve my DL strength and form. Last winter I worked up to a 2x body weight conventional DL, but my form wasn’t great at that weight. 2x body weight for me is 275lbs.
this winter I’m trying to wave my way back up into the 315 range and try to get there in both Sumo and Conventional. I alternate sets.
My question is weight jumps. Right now I jump 10lbs each workout and DL 5x/week at 5 reps, 3 reps, 2 reps each workout.
4 steps forward, 3 steps back and repeat that 4 times. Then drop back to the starting weight+10lbs and do it again. Hope that makes sense. I’m slowly working my way up because I really want to have solid form.
As I get closer to 2x body weight, is only dropping back 30lbs(3steps) enough? Should I start adjusting in 15lb jumps to get a larger weight drop? I’m thinking of keeping the higher weight targets the same but adjust the lowest weights lower so that it’s in 15 lb changes.

Is what you're doing right now working? If yes, why wrap your head around something that's not an issue.
Keep doing what you're doing and only change it up or ask questions about changing it up when it stops working.

That's the same way I did it a few years ago when I ran PTTP. Worked well for me.

That’s a good point. Right now it’s feeling fine. Some days I feel weaker than others but I think that’s normal. I’m just concerned that once the weight starts getting more challenging, the 30lb step back might not feel like much of a step back.

Thanks Shawn. Once I get a little farther along I’ll rework the numbers and see how it goes.

All I ever did was start at say Day 1 at 225, D-2 235 so on and so on until week 2 I started at 235 D1, 245 D-2 ect… Worked great for me. I'm actually thing of going back to it coming off a groin injury and swings/snatches out of the picture for a bit.

My DL cycles consisted 12-15 sessions. Weight jumps were small, only 2,5kg. I did 4 steps forward, 3 steps back.
