Hi everyone,

Name your number 1 physically strongest fighter for each weight class in MMA. Any time in MMA history and when I say strength I mean guys who can physically move around Thier opponents stuff takedowns and generally manhandle opponents. Ps you don't have to name a fighter from each weight class
HW. Prime Ken shamrock/ Brock Lesnar
LHW. Tito Ortiz
MW. York Romero
WW. Matt Hughes/ hector Lombard
LW. Khabib nurmagomedov

Heavyweight: Alistair Overeem (horsemeat prime)
Light heavyweight: Kevin Randleman
Middleweight: Yoel Romero
Welterweight: GSP
Lightweight: Sean Sherk
Featherweight: Jose Aldo

In terms of strength within techniques, Khabib is imo the strongest lightweight, period. He gets ahold of you and just mauls you. There's nothing you can do to stop it.
...
Brock Lesnar is probably the closet thing to a human gorilla. If he's within reach, he can hurt anyone. He landed one punch on Heath Herring and shattered his orbital. He landed on punch on Cain and dislocated his shoulder. He once punched a tree so hard it turned into a book.

The Reem was a monster when he was juicing, but anabolics so idk if it counts. Personally I enjoyed seeing him juiced to the gills, he knocked people's heads clean off.

Jose Aldo's kicks are terrifying. He's also one of the most athletic human beings in existence. I'm pretty sure he could out athlete any athlete in any athletic event.

GSP had Khabib level strength. People say he's boring, I'm nothing short of impressed by him. Try to keep someone else that's your size on the ground for 25 minutes.. however I met Matt Hughes, I can personally say he had some of the densest traps I've ever felt. And a hidden strength behind his handshake, firm but humble. I've never shaken GSP's hand so I can't compare, but I would like to.

This is a serious talking point for me and could get interesting. If I had to choose, Fedor would probably be my choice (I'm disregarding weight class, Fedor ftw). When he hits people, it looks like he hit them with a brick. I don't think I've ever seen anything like it.

Interesting points that I agree on 100% ubereem was a freak and was Matt Hughes just a lump of wood ? Would you say p4p the strongest guy you have met

There's a quote/article out there from GSPs trainer Jon Chaimberg talking about how GSP was nothing special until he started training him, and yet he had already reached a high level in the UFC.

If I can find it, I'll post it.

Although I have never seen him fight...and he doesn't (or didn't) compete at the level of the guys listed here so far, I'd think you would have to add Mariusz Pudzianowski by default.

Oh yes of course but we all know he is the champ of strength in MMA

Relevant part starts at 4:40. Chaimberg said GSP could do only 8 bodyweight pullups and was only pressing 55lbs dumbbells when he started working with him, and he had already beaten Matt Hughes once. Take it with a grain of salt, as maybe Chaimberg is being self-serving in this interview.

There are videos of GSP later doing chins with +90lbs for three reps and repping out 100lbs dumbbells, so he didn't stay weak for long. But I don't think he was a monster in his weight class.

That's hard to say, I've wrestled some guys in high school that were complete monsters. Their problem was their environment, not their technique. They all could have done something special I think. However in terms of people everyone knows, I'd say that's very likely. I wouldn't describe him as a lump of wood, more like carved outta wood.

Pudzan gets the default. Hard to argue with 5x WSM. However he was never going to compete against top tier UFC guys. Too old imo. He spent his best years being a modern day Samson.

Bob Sapp was an animal. He can crush an apple. That's not a trick. I've never met anyone who could do that. If anyone can do this, I'd love to see it!

As far as GSP goes, I have a copy of his autobiography. He said he was a wimp growing up. Nothing special. Was he born a monster? No. But I think he became one. I would argue that grappling builds a different kind of strength and mat time is a big part of it. And he has spent more time in the octogon than any other fighter i believe. I'll have to double-check that one. A long time.. he's spent hours in there. Not to mention all the time spent on the mat in training, for at least the last decade.

Best summed up by a good friend of mine who explained to me why a mediocre pro fighter can hit way harder than a seasoned amateur.. "All the years of punching add up to a hell of a punch" greasing the groove, if you will. Which speaking of, same guy introduced me to Pavel.

Bigfoot Silva is another monster. There was a guy I watched a while back, can't recall the name. He arm triangled a guy from guard. That was a serious display of strength. Being exceptionally strong for my size, I've tried this. Unsuccessfully I will add. I will try to get you a name.

I wanna shout out Mike Bisping! I think it was Jason Parillo (sorry if spelt incorrectly) that said he’s never seen anybody so fit in his life. I know that’s not what you mean by physically strong but I feel like he gets overlooked massively! And he reps Manchester which is where I’m from.. no bias here

Bispings endurance was really exceptional. I don't think he ever gassed, despite being in a good handful of wars fought at a high pace. Strengthwise, though, I don't think he was quite up there with the more bulky middleweights like Romero, Rockhold or Costa.

I don't think anyone could out muscle yoel at middleweight the Cuban wrestling system breeds monsters and that coupled with years of wrestling and genetics I think he is the strongest however he doesn't have the gas tank of bisping it's hard to find anyone who does
