Hello all-

I wanted to start Brett Jones’ SFG Cert Prep Guide program soon and wanted to know if and when there would be any room for a few sets of pull-ups and trap-bar deadlifts?

Hello all-

I don't need to speak for Brett, but I have used his prep guide 3 times over the past 5 years with students and all of them have asked me about adding this or that to the program. My answer was always this - No. If Brett felt those extra exercises were important he would have put them into the program.

A critical detail in the program is how the days are organized with Tue / Wed Snatch prep and Fri / Sat / Sun as SFG Cert prep. The cert is always held Fri / Sat / Sun, so practicing on those days is important in getting ready for the real thing.

When I did my first cert, five pull-ups were part of the price of entry, performed along with the weigh-in. I followed Brett's program to prepare, and because my pull-ups weren't on point when I decided to prepare for cert, I also followed the fighter pull-up program three days a week for a while to help get them there.

That's not to say sure, add pull-ups. Once I knew I had my five, I didn't try to keep adding pull-ups until after cert was in the mirror. Now that the pull-up requirement is gone, I would just stick with the program.

Is there a certain result this program is designed for other than being conditioned to pass snatch test & handle the weekends volume? Basically, will it make me a Navy SEAL, gain 20 pounds of muscle or able to press a mid-sized sedan?

Somewhat concerned that I might actually die with this volume so I just wanted to make sure it was worth it first...

One adjustment you can make is do a timeless snatch test session instead and then do 10 reps every 30 seconds with a lighter bell for 100 reps total..

The heavy swing day reminded me of a Q&D quote that fast 20s were too much to recover from, and this would have heavy 20s for 10 min. I think that's what got me wondering...
Maybe because it's a sort of peaking program? S&S = gpp: ROP = 1/2bw press/hypertrophy: SFG = SFG performance. Shocking Id guess....

Nate, over the years, I have seen quite a few folks not as regular training students but for a few sessions as they prepared for their SFG. I don't know if you've worked with an SFG before, but even a single session, where you go in and say, "I want to try this program - what do you think?" might be worth its weight in gold to you.
