Hello. Long time lurker, first time poster here. I love this forum. I’m a huge fan of strength training, and the Strongfirst principles are right up my alley.
I’ve recently re-developed an interest in kettlebell training after reading S&S. I’d really love to pursue the simple standard, but right now I only have an 8 kg and a 16 kg bell. For now that is adequate as I’m still working on power output and really nailing my technique. However, at some point I’ll need more intensity.
Unfortunately I have two problems: first KBs are really hard to come by where I am right now and second, due to having a family and a kid with dental issues I have more important places to put my money.
Long story short, I’m wondering what folks here think about doing DB sings instead of KB swings as a temporary solution. I have DBs, so the money and availability issues are taken care of. I’m pretty sure that swinging a DB and a KB of equal weight is not the same thing, but would it be good enough for now in my current situation until I can increase my KB selection?
Thanks for any and all input.

Not sure about where you are, but home gym equipment is in reasonably high demand here during lockdowns due to COVID-19, could you offload the dumbells for cash towards a kettlebell?

My 2c worth

I would use dumbbells for swings (though different dynamics of the movement) if and ONLY if, they were fixed weights or had the threaded sleeves so the weights were for certain securely locked on.

That’s a great point. I have a mix of fixed weight dumbbells and some threaded sleeves.
