@Alydia Bryant - I must say that I have watched to video of you bent pressing the beast about 20 times. Amazingly inspirational. Thanks to both you and @Iron Tamer for this brilliant thread, it's made me want to start to prioritise the bent press much more in my training.

Awesome job and great insights, Alydia! Many thanks.

@DavThew Im so glad it was inspiring! I still can't quite fathom that I got it. It was an audacious goal

@Iron Tamer & @Alydia Bryant , thank you for your insightful replies. Was my try at the bent press a "very committed try"? I'm committed every time I practice with my kettlebells. I have many areas to work on. Could the bent press fit into those areas? After reading your replies it very well may.

I don't think tamer or I were implying that you aren't always commited to your kettlebell training sessions. But rather have you taken the time to master the bent press as you would have the TGU or the swing? Have you done the progressions of the arm bar and bent arm bar with light weight? Have you practiced half kneeling bent presses?

I don't think anyone can argue that the arm bar and bent arm bar didn't improve pectoral tightness and thoracic mobility. And the bent press just takes that further.

For me I felt a great sense of empowerment when I bent pressed a bell I couldn't strict press.

Alydia, can you post a link to the good 48kg BP here?

I like the progressions that you posted... it is good to see back in time from when a goal is accomplished. And I was somewhere in the background there (on the SFG 1 side) in the video from the Dome :)

Thanks. Really great video. That is a feat of a lifetime!!

SFG II is definitely in my future, but won't be at the Dome this year. That's great that you're assisting. It is so much awesomeness in one weekend... and even SFB going on this year also. I'm excited for everyone that is going, because I know what a great experience it is.

Well I was a Lazy a#@ leading up to my level 2. And I almost didnt think i could get ready in time. BUT with the right programing you can. Let me know if you change your mind about the Dome this year. Id love to help you get ready via distance coaching.

@Alydia Bryant : that is a hell of a bent press with a hell of a bell. Yes, it looks easy and is very pleasing to watch. When these two things come together in a movement or performance, then the executer has spent some times with. Repeatedly. Striving for easiness leads to mastery. A culmination can become over time a base, which widens with further practice and application.

The bent armbar was for me definitely was the practical take home point for me, that I got from Tamer at my SFG2. I did it for the first time then, felt a totally unique stretch and loosening. I practice it here and there in a week. not that really much on a daily basis, no schedule with it. They accumulate over time, that is for sure. There will be a time, I think I will commit some time in the future with the bent press. No one can do anything at once. But the thing for me that is further growing is that striving doing few things well makes, well. Currently I just do (a lot) of heavy swings per the program, and practice some press variations. (thanks everyone for posting z-presses, not just a challenge but a regression or a progression? who knows? but same but different, that' for sure). A Pull and a Press. Not more, not less. That is what I like about and learn through StrongFirst. A hint and cue, a nugget, reminder, something to think and practice about. Great inspiration, Alydia.

You get it @Harald Motz! Honestly what was so cool for me is that I had to take some time off from bent pressing. I became an Amazing 12 coach and I wanted to complete the program before i put loads of people through it. At first I talked with @Iron Tamer and came up with a plan to work in Bent Pressing but after 1 week my time commitments didnt allow for it, so i dropped bent pressing. I maybe bent pressed 2x between Oct-Jan. Then Picked up the beast last week in Jan gave it a try I was close but not there. Rested a bit tried again with mental focus and BOOM!

I LOVE bent arm bars....

I discovered Dave Whitley on YouTube and became fascinated with the bent press. I bought "Taming the Bent Press".

After training the bent press and its progressions for a few weeks it still felt awkward and I felt like abandoning the lift. I thought I was one of the people who lacked the joint mobility and proportions to bent press. Just like some people are not build to ATG squat.

One day everything clicked and soon enough I was smoothly bent pressing left and right handed, and feeling all of the benefits.

Thank you Dave Whitley for igniting a passion for the bent press.

definitely going to pick up your book Iron Tamer and start incorporating bent press into my training. I do S&S 5-6 days a week and am going to try splitting time between the BP and GU, practicing the BP 2-3 days a week and the GU 2-3 days.
