Background: previously and recently (for the second time) acheived Simple however I have realised there are some flaws with my swings and I'm backing off with weight until I see an SFG. Fortunatly I have an SFG user course booked at the end of the week :).

Onto the main point. I really like bent presses. I really like TGUs. I sort of like military press, but can live without if for a while. Whilst perusing the interwebs I came across this amazing video (dog included) from Fabio Zonin.

The bent press to getdown seems like a really awesome combo. I'll be playing with this for the next week until I have my swing looked at and can get back to progressing on S&S properly.

That's a really cool looking movement! I'm not inclined to try it, but it sure looks neat!

@DavThew A note I saved earlier from the forum (Pavel's advice, quote):

"Follow S&S; on some days replace the GU with the BtP. Use a different set/rep scheme than 5x1 for the BtP, e.g, work up in singles, then do a couple of back off triples."

My favorite BP variation is to drop into an overhead squat at the bottom, curl and rack a second bell (lighter one), come up, then reverse the entire movement.
Drop back into an overhead squat, set the second bell down and reverse the actual BP, rinse and repeat for a two hands anyhow BP. If your form isn't not solid you'll learn it quick!

@natewhite39 I've got taming the bent press. Fantastic purchase, it's pretty much the only place I have ever found that actually gives good instruction on it.

@North Coast Miller I do love the two hands anyhow. I wish I could work out a reasonable way to program it, but that is for much more expert minds than mine I think!

The bent press is one of my favorites. Dave Whitley's book and video helped a lot. Sometimes I like to do a few with my 32kg (heavy for me, and the heaviest I own) and then sometimes I will drop the weight drastically and do the two hands anyhow (20kg in heavy hand, 16kg in light). I generally just do 5 alternating reps and call it with the two hands anyhow and will do 1 or 2 reps with the heavy one. Sometimes I will throw 32kg in the 'light' hand and just treat it as an anchor and not curl and press it.

Iron Tamer's book has some programming information in it. I will eventually take that on but as for now I am just feeling out and exploring it.

Pavel, do you ever replace tgu with the Btp?
Btw, your training log is awesome!

I used to have a short video with verbal cues of this variation but misplaced it a few PCs back. Here's a quick look at how I do reps on them - this really has the gym rats scratching their heads. Takes some practice to reverse the move, but well worth it. Turns an already tough lift into a real bear.

@malleus I was thinking of it some time ago, as I love bent press, but - no. Interestingly, few months ago I have bent pressed 48 kg, without any bent bent press training (WTH!), when teaching bent press in my gym. Thank you for your kind words about my log, I am happy you like it.
