Kettlebell Lat flare drill?

Is anyone familiar with the lat flare drill in the More Russian Kettlebell Challenges video? It's in the section with the bent press. You hold a kb in each hand, like you're going to farmer's walk, and practice "flaring" the lats. It's used as a lat activation drill but I can feel all kinds of upper back muscles working. I was wondering if regular practice might be good for posture and the lower traps?
