Background: I’m a StrongFirst Elite Instructor, Team Leader and Iron Maiden.

I own and run my own studio in Salt Lake City UT. After completing my Iron Maiden Challenge I developed a love for the 24kg.

This is my log of where I’m at and the ways I’m using some heavy complexes to improve my performance with the larger bells (22-32kg)

I’d love for this log to encourage anyone to explore their strength and skills with bells that have any any point felt out of reach.

I’m 5’4 and 145lbs for reference.

A favorite simple complex to get some heavy weight overhead to get comfortable with weight overhead..

Clean + press + squat
Clean + push press + squat
Clean + jerk + squat

10 deadstop swings
4-5 times through

I started working on the negative of my press. The heavier the bell is the bigger it is and it sits differently on my arm. Working that top down portion of the press helped me pull it down into the strongest position for me to press from.

Additionally getting the bell up overhead via snatch challenged me to really find a true vertical position with my torso locked in.
