Barbell A Barbell Squat Challenge for 2022 (315lb x As Many Reps As Proper)

I have been wanting to do the squat challenge but I have a meet in 16 more days, then another one May 2023, then Nationals in September 2023. The all time squat record for 70-74 Masters IVa 100k is 396 pounds. I just squatted 408 and by Nationals it will be 440 or 200k. I don't do more than 3 reps when training for meets.

I might have to just break down and see how many reps with 315 I can do which should be over 8 and under 12! I might try tomorrow as it is just my heavy singles day. If I am successful there will be a video. If not successful the video will die! LOL

I think everything's current:

Well, I’m not going to make it this year. Squats have been my weakest link, and while I had several cycles of them this year I haven’t gotten to 315 yet. This morning I worked up to 275 lbs, maybe could have hit 285, but that would have been it. Still have a ways to go for 315, maybe in 2023…

Next year I've been thinking we should have a "Squat With Big Plates For Reps Challenge" w. separate categories for 135lb, 225lb, 315lb, etc. More people can participate and it will be more fun.

I both love and hate that idea.

Love: us weaklings have more chances of performing

Hate: 225lbs x 20 doesn't sound unrealistic for me and that sounds miserable...

Welp, looks like I won't be turning in a last minute submission after all. Today was fine, and I'm okay w. it - I'm not injured and had some decent sets that were pretty dialed in form wise but 315lb x 5 was the best I could do for the day, despite wearing suit bottoms, belt, and wraps. It's cool though - I'm looking forward to getting back into some solid training.

My squats have gone well. My old injury seems to be gone, though I also feel like I can't yet squat as often as I'd like. Either I have to build up to capacity or then it's the looming middle-age that's getting to me. Still, squats are more fun than in a long time and strength levels go up.

I'd planned on trying out the challenge again a couple of times already. I originally planned on even maybe training for it, doing progressively longer sets for a month or so before the test day.

But... No. I profoundly do not want to. I no longer derive any enjoyment from the longer squat sets. I love the threes and fives, and just do more of them, if necessary.

Still, great to see lots of people squatting and enjoying their time. I hope this thread will keep the energy up and draw even more people to it.
