In a podcast a few months back an expert in mitochondrial adaptation, Inigo San Milan spoke about this...Peter Attia podcast I think.

Paraphrasing, mild lactate is the signalling process. Plenty of easy with a smattering of moderate....that pushes up your 'easy'.
Top athletes need to keep pushing things more for further adaptations. Their 'easy' is 'hard' for many, in terms of power and endurance output. A view which sits nicely with SF programming.
Walking is good but you need to add something else to affect greater adaptation.
A lot of peeps here do a strength focused template with walking.
For health and well being, absolutely. For marathon training?
What sort of time you looking at.....?
So no, if looking for performance in endurance sport, unless you do that Olympic walking thing, which should just be banned on the grounds that it is a silly walk.
So yes and no.
I walk a lot, train and my competitive outlet is sprinting.
Low intensity movement is always a good thing.
To rev up metabolism you'll need to take it further but 'to where' is relative.
