I actually have a back alley trainer now but the doc still has me on the bench for a week or two.

You need to learn the technique of "breathing through the sheild".
Do a searcher it, but basically it's one deep breath at the beginning then half short breaths timed with your swings for the endurance on the set.
If you can learn this you will not hyperventilate from gulping in air even with a heavy KB.
These are very different from the valsalva more like bracing for a punch quickly with each rep.
When you see a boxer throw a strike and hear them exhale they are using this technique to stay tight so the strike solid and they don't get the air knocked out of them if they get hit in the abdomen.
So as your swing comes to the apex your exhaling through the nose/mouth and bracing getting tight for a brief moment.

Just as a follow up, thank you to all for your suggestions and help! I'm back training today after two weeks of forced layoff order by the eye surgeon. I did 100 swings at 40kg and got about 75% of them right on the breathing.

Thanks to all!
