Edit to add, it is also possible to have a social analog to the Stanford experiment where persons in "authority" are telling us a given course is harmless or even if it might be, they will take responsibility for our actions, which are harmless anyway.

We see this in politics all the time.

I think the people on the Strong First path have less to worry then the people that are over weight and physically week. I'm a blue collar worker, but I've noticed that employers hire the healthy, fit people, long before the over educated-over indulgent ones. And as far as age is a factor, my employer prefers to hire older people who have good work ethics, over the young who have a feeling of entitlement.
Maybe we can't change the world, but we can change ourselves to be better equipped to survive and even prosper despite the changes.
