Kettlebell Bent Press form (video)

Your form isn't bad. One thing I noticed, which everyone does when they start bent pressing, is that the connection of your right arm and your right lat was ended slightly prematurely. The stronger the connection to your lat is, the more you can lift. Period. Really, you just want to use that lat as a shelf while you 'shift' from one leg to the other. It also took me a while to figure out where I wanted my legs to be when I start and finish. You can experiment with whether or not you want to start with one leg locked or not. Some people may not agree with that though...
Anyway, looks pretty good.

Daniel, the beginning of what you do in the video is much like the old time side press. In that move, the stance is wide enough to allow the lifter to bend over while keep both knees locked, and although it's hard to tell with long pants, that's what you do for quite a while in your press.

If you look on my site, you'll find an old video of Bryce Lane doing a barbell side press with 135 lbs.

What you need is to buy the book, Taming the Bent Press, by our own Iron Tamer David Whitley, and follow its instructions. You will want a narrow stance and to bend the leg on the non-bearing side.

Nothing wrong with a side press, of course, but just as one can move more weight with a side press than with a strict military press, so can one move more weight with a real bent press than with a side press.

Hope that helps.

good work. I would recommend getting your elbow further behind you like this:

GREAT! thanks for your help guys, I do have the Bent press book by Dave whitley, and i will be following your guys advice too. Thanks again. :)

Daniel, Tamer has also an excellent accompanying downloadable DVD - check out https://sellfy.com/p/5jHD/

Recommended!

Just to echo Tamer there - that specific rack position video is where it all clicked for me. It suddenly makes the whole movement a lot easier and a lot smoother.

Nice work!

My first impression was that you were lifting a bit too heavy there Daniel. Overall the form is not bad but it was a bit shaky. That weight would be OK to lift sometimes but I wouldn't make that my training weight.

Is there any consensus here as to whether a copybook bent press needs the corkscrew at the bottom of the maneuver ?

Owen seems to have a good corkscrew, but I can't see it in Dave's video although Dave's video does seem to be focused on racking the bell and getting into position at the top of the movement more than a full bent press tutorial.

My bent press is technically much worse than yours Daniel, so sorry if I seem like I'm nit picking. Because of a shoulder operation I have drastically reduced external rotation on one side, so my bent press is really a side press.

& also because of the shape of my torso there's no way I could ever touch my elbow on my hip without contorting myself into a sideways C shape.
