Chronicles of Becoming a Man

2/17/2020

GS: 32, 32, 32
SW 2 handed 10x10 EMOM all with 32
TGU: 32,32,32,32,32

Fighter Pull-up Program 4,3,3,2,1

I was in the car an awful lot this last weekend. After doing a ton of mobility drills last night and this morning to loosen up, I decided to shock the system, so to speak. TGU seemed to get stronger with every rep all with 32. Boom

2/19/2020 S&S

GS: 32, 32, 32
SW: 32, 32,32,32,32
TGU: 32,32,32,32,32

Fighter Pull-up Program 4,4,3,2,1

Timeless complete. Left TGU we’re a tiny bit rough because of a hip stinger that I got yesterday at work. Swings were strong, but definitely took at least 90 seconds between sets.

2/24/2020 Timeless S&S

GS: 32, 32, 32
SW: 32, 32,32,32,32
TGU: 32,32,32,32,32

Fighter Pull-up Program 3,2,1,1

5 days hiatus with a family trip. Still managed to body weight and high tension exercises. I also finished the 3RM FPP using chin ups and am starting over with pull ups

2/25/2020 Variety

CL 5/5 x 3 with 28
BU Press in half kneel 3/3 x 3 with 16
Pistol 3/3 x 3

now that I’m going to drop S&S frequency, I’m going to use variety days to keep the pattern with clean, press, and squat. I’ll eventually be doing Strength Aerobics on variety days but need to turn on those nerves again.

SW: 32, 32,32,32,32
TGU: 32,32,32,32,32

Fighter Pull-up Program 3,2,1,1

Pull ups felt weak, so I did days 1&2 again

2/29/2020 Timeless S&S

GS: 32, 40, 32
SW: 32, 32,32,32,32
TGU: 32,32,32,32,32

Fighter Pull-up Program 3,2,2,1

added the 40 for GS. I figured if I’m going to attempt to spar with this bad boy, I might as well start with GS. One night last week, I tested out the TGU with the 40, and only felt comfortable with the floor press but this may have been more of a mental block vs physical.

Is this a detour from S&S? I am going to hit timeless Simple soon and will need to decide whether to keep rolling or mix it up.

Thanks for the question Tim! No detours from S&S and is still the main focus. Reading the article "Strength Aerobics," Pavel recommends alternating S&S with SA day to day and I decided to do this once I felt comfortable with Timeless Simple. I will start added in sets of 2H swings with the 40 to S&S in the next few weeks.

After one session, I can already tell this is a good compliment to S&S without burning out your grip or your energy.

Good luck getting to Timeless Simple!

Very interesting. I will keep an eye on your progress here. I have been intrigued by Strength Aerobics for a while but forgot it was recommended as a mix-in for S&S.

I am all the way to timeless with the get-ups and 80% of the way with the swings. I don’t want to make any changes until the 40 is in the mix.

attempted at TGU with the 40
I have to admit that I don’t even try 8k jumps with the TGUs. I am very happy to progress my swings by 8 monthly and my get ups by 4 every other week. You will get it one way or another though, just maybe not right before bedtime ;-)

3/4/2020 Timeless S&S

GS: 32, 40, 32
SW: 32, 32,32,32,32
TGU: 32,32,32,32,32

Fighter Pull-up Program 3,3,2,1

Every rep felt strong with this one. The horns on the Perform better 40 are not too rounded, so I get a nice little pec squeeze during GS to maintain my grip.

How much does the Fighter Pull-up Program cut into your S&S sessions. I started doing some GTG pull-ups and could definitely feel it on my get-ups.

FPP adds an additional 10 minutes to S&S with my rests. I take a little longer rest with the higher reps.

My goal is GPP and my plan in to to do S&S until mid April then switch to a version of Craig Marker’s SFG prep which entails MWF of his military press program coupled with fighter pull up program and T-Th of swings EMOM coupled with double front squats. It’s 6 weeks total. Why not ROP? It’s one of my favorite programs that I’ve complete last year and met the press goal. Craig program would allow for 1) shorter sessions and 2) use of a wide variety of KBs that’s I’ve purchased and actually want to use.

After that, Moving Targets Complex then Return of the Kettlebell. I’ve read that book so many times and love the program and layout. Next year I really want to do programs by Hector G because they, again, have a great layout.

I realize I am all of the place. I’ve never truly set a time frame for myself. Every program I’ve started, I have been able to see it through to the except one Geoff Neupert program. This was because my wife switch to Keto in September, so to make things easier, I did as well. Doing complexes like that we’re a bad idea while my body adjusted. I lost so much strength and felt like absolute garbage.
