Hello guys new here, I'll try keep it short but would really appreciate if someone can point me to the right place to go as I know I can only get limited help on a forum.

I'm male 30, I'll start from when I was a kid. I was very active kid always playing sports, playing in the house, out the house you name it I was addicted to playing. Thinking back now things that stick out to me I remember my sister saying "why is your leg bent" my right leg used to point inwards but never troubled me as a kid I dont think or didn't realize. As I got to a teen I remember her saying "your legs not bent anymore" and I was fine but I also remember I used to be able to crack my neck A LOT to the point when me and sis were watching tv she could hear it if I kept moving my head left right fast but never had any issues in my teens that I remember. However around 22/23 I started playing on my PC a lot and I'd stopped being as active around age 18 however I would go gym but a complete noob not knowing what to do and on/off. I always noticed weird stuff about my postur even around 18/19 I remember asking my friend "do you have to roll your shoulder back into place" because that's what I used to do, my right shoulder is like coming forward, actually the whole right side is.

Anyway fast forward now, I'm constantly in pain, I have SEVERE apt but I don't understand how. I know people who NEVER did any sport and sit on the computer way more than me all day and they're fine maybe they have tad apt but their posture etc is fine.

My APT is as far as your back can bend and my legs hyper extend inwards due to it. I can easily put myself in neutral but obviously it's hard to stay. I have a lot of tension in the groin area and no amount of stretching helps. I try to lift weights, I've put on muscle etc but my posture still sucks, no amount of planking or anything. I also noticed since taking weight lifting more serious my left side is getting much bigger than the right or noticeably bigger and the power distribution is like 80/20 to my left arm it feels like. I guess this is due to my body swaying (if my feet are pointing forwards my belly button is at 10am) Also a year ago I started to develop a knot in my right lat/rib cage area at first it was just a niggle that I could get out but now its super tight and i'm constantly yanking my body to the left to try get it out.

I feel completely down about everything, I can't get on with my lfe at all. It's extremely frustrating because I'm young I look like I'm fit if you saw me but I feel like a deformity, my walk is messed up, my posture hunched etc. I've been to a chrio and it's just a waste of money the cracking doesn't do anything.

So I want to ask where do I go? Who do I go to? I live in London so if anyone can suggest where I need to go, I'm fearing I have degenerative disc disease or one of my vertebra are broken thats why I'm leaning to one side and that I have some kind of scoliosis. I'ts extremely demotivating as the one thing that makes me happy is exercise but I can't even reach my full potential on that...my progress feels so slow despite pushing myself, eating clean etc...

Please help me! I can post pics if needed

Hey! Welcome to the forum. I don’t really have any advise but I figured I’d say hello.

If it makes you feel any better one of my legs is shorter than the other, I limp a little... and before I started swinging and doing getups my upper bakc was quite hunched and my APT wasn’t BAD but it wasn’t great.

I will say this... after about 3-4 months of swings and get ups I noticed my posture greatly improved. It was actually kind of painful at first adjusting but now I still sit at work all day but my body sort of knows the position to go to.

Doubt this helps at all but I wanted to say hello.

Some people swear by Chiropractors some swear at them.
Go see an orthopedic doctor (MD) who specializes in backs. You might or might not have any of those things you list. (I know the NHS may be challenging.) Find out what is going on first....

And above all don’t take medical advice from internet practitioners...

See your GP (I am one but about 200 miles north of you so I can’t help directly, but feel free to DM if you feel you’re getting fobbed off and I’ll do what I can to help you get some help). There’s a lot in your post which needs addressing and things sounds too complex for anything here to be of much use.

With that said, there is hope. My experience is that getting stronger solves a surprising number of health problems, but getting on the path to getting stronger at the right point can be difficult. Original Strength Resets seem to be a good, safe place to start for many.

You can try specific corrective training for the back (see video example below or Dr. McGill's book 'Back Mechanic'), but I agree with the other posters that you should see a medical professional like an orthopedist who can check for severe conditions with x-ray, MRI, etc. There won't be a miracle cure that you can find in a forum most likely.
I understand that the situations is very diffucult for you, but don't compromise yourself - you're all you have.
I wish you all the best for your health.

See your GP

My thoughts as well -- Take a global view, see your regular doctor and see if there's some underlying issue... beyond that, start moving your body and developing your muscles. There are lots of ways to do that, but you'd have to tell us what you have available as far as resources, equipment, time, and interest. Physical training will help get your mind and body back to working together!

See a doctor. Preferably one who is into fitness and lifts, not one that tells you, "oh your X is messed up, you will never be able to do that again".

Once cleared, train for strength and mobility. S&S, if interested in kbells. Or something like Starting Strength if interested in barbells. If you could afford to meet with a coach to get started, that would be ideal.

Do not lose hope. You can build yourself up. You are still young. But start now.

Regards,

Eric

Doctor first, then a coach who can help with both strength and flexibility. Ab strength will help. Toe touches, as long as they don't bother your back.

Hello everyone and thank you so much to all of you that replied and gave your advice and reach for help.

I'm on my phone so I can't directly reply to each person, I understand gp may be an option but quite frankly my gps are useless I've gone to them regarding other issue's and they were very disinterested and once I went to a specialist I was told my problem was serious and needs to be treated not maintained.

Anyhow I dont mind paying, I'm at a point where I just want to know what to do. What is the best specialist to go to?

Id also like to clarify that despite my post sounding bad if you saw me irl you wouldn't think there's anything wrong with me unless you inspect clearly or catch me standing completely relaxed which I never do because I look like Quasimodo and I really feel like my extreme apt is the cause but feels like anything I do doesn't work. But when I stand neutral I feel pressured throughout my core, but how weak can I possibly be? I'm not skinny I have muscle etc why aren't all the gamers I know who have 10-12k hours in games like this? My friend who I mentioned his posture still fine....sorry I'm going off on one but im literally in a depression due to this posture, I can't do anything to its fullest

Can someone recommend proper core work, not stuff you see in YouTube videos or articles made by people who have never had apt or posture problems sorry again

+1 to doctor and maybe physical therapy.

I found the pump stretch from Enter the Kettlebell helpful to undo a lot of the problems that came with sitting too much.

In addition to that you might benefit from upper back training like rows. A TRX knockoff with a door anchor allows you to do them pretty much anywhere.

When I started training with KBs I had horrible posture and it often felt like my bodyparts were held together by steel cables that randomly crisscrossed through my body. Especially the rotation with the TGU was a tough nut to get used to because it felt like something in my upper body was about to rip apart. Mind you, I had no chronic back pain to begin with and KBs were no magic bullet that solved all my issues. But I can say that moving my bodyparts through a great range of motion under load fixed me up pretty good.

@worstposture -Have to agree with the above, doctor first, then trainer and phy. therapy if needed. Here in the US, most MD's usually take the phy. therapy route first. If you're having trouble finding a doc you trust, talk to some trainers at a gym and see who they'd recommend. PT's also know which ones are good.

Since you spend a lot of time at a desk sitting, can you start some daily walking after or before work to build up some reasonable strength in your legs, back and spine? Besides the physical benefits of walking(outdoors, not on a treadmill), it also has a great mental aspect. Walking is great for posture also. Don't push it if it's causing a lot of pain.

For some motivation, please watch Arthur who used Yoga for Regular guys on this video. He's was a really beat up war veteran.

Hope you're still with us. And consider changing your SF handle at some point.

I dont sit as much as I used to now my job I stand, walk whilst commuting etc. I have an inversion table but due to my apt it feels like my spine won't every straighten when I'm on it...I'm thinking to give it another try as I haven't used it since last year.

My question I had in the other post that got removed was; when I sit up straight I have extreme tense feeling in my quads and I feel I'm in a very posterior position almost like my lower back is touching the seat not the glutes and if I sit on floor with my legs in front straight, I cant straighten my back, I have a bump in the lower back looks very odd. Standing up though I have extreme anterior if I'm totally relaxed...what is the reason for this?

Like everyone has been saying, it's best to see a professional in person. I'm probably not alone in saying that I tried for a long time to get free advice from the internet for issues I have had, and once I went to a PT things actually got better.

So GO SEE A PROFESSIONAL. Not trying to be stern here, but it will seriously be the best thing you can do if you want to see changes happen.

All that being said, I can relate to having body issues. I have focal dystonia in my right hand/wrist and have been slowwwwwwwly rehabilitating it. There are two reasons I tell you this:

I went to the one guy in the world who can fairly reliably teach people to rehab themselves out of this insane condition, and he basically said "stop worrying about why or how it happened. That is in the past. You must focus on what you have to do NOW to get better." So my advice to you is the same; stop worrying about why it is the way it is and go see someone who can actually tell you what to do to get better.

These things take a lot of time. Once you start seeing a professional, don't expect everything to change in a matter of weeks. If it does, great, but it usually doesn't. You have to be patient, consistent and think about the long term.

Lastly, when you do go see a professional, what you want to do is explain to them your situation, have them examine you, and then most importantly tell them what you want to be able to do. The last part is extremely important because you don't want the doctor that says, "if it bothers you then don't do it." What you want is the person who says "so you want to move better and get stronger? We are going to find the things that work for you." Make sense?

Best wishes and I hope you get the help you need :)

Awesome advice! One of my family members who is a nurse gave my son that advice regarding his injured ankle. She said, don't just take the medial provider's first explanation about what state the joint is in and what the limitations are. You have to advocate for yourself. Tell them, hey, "I'm an active young guy who needs to work and I also want to do these recreational things. I want you to help me get back to what I need to do." It can really make a difference in the care that you get.

Excellent advice. I know that, over the years, my doctors have appreciated me being an active partner in my own care and being willing to talk to them about what I'm feeling and what I think might be best for me. Of course, they don't always agree with my own recommendations. :)
