I realize the internet is not the place for self diagnosis but I need help! While training for the TSC this fall I had to pull out of the event as I did something to my Teres Major while training. I can still do Kettlebell snatches and deadlifts with very, very minimal pain but Pull-Ups, once I move from the dead hang into a contraction I feel like someone is stabbing me with a knife. I went and saw a reputable ART Specialist in the area but at 50 bucks a pop I could only afford a couple of visits. I no longer have pain when doing general activities but the pain has not decreased whatsoever when attempting pull ups.

As far as treatment I have completely laid off of pull-ups (even lat pull downs hurt). I have been performing the following exercise

I have also been sticking a lacrosse ball under my armpit for self myofacial release. (I have used one of those canes as well to do something similar).

Has anyone else experienced this? If so how long did it take to recover? I am very frustrated as I feel I am doing all the right things and the intensity of the pain has not decreased whatsoever.

Andy...
Have you seen a physician? Preferably one who specializes in sports medicine. You are right. The internet is not a place to receive a medical diagnosis. You want to ensure your remedies are helping, and not exacerbating the situation.

If the ART the clinician was doing was working than I would find a way to keep doing it....most likely much less expensive than a new patient exam and diagnostic and imaging work up with an orthopedist. If you are not getting any more benefit from the ART then I agree with @offwidth . There's a lot that can happen to the shoulder and internet diagnosis is like Russian roulette.

When you say it won't heal, how long have you had this going on ?

& regarding the myofascial release - that can work for a knot or an adhesion but if it's a tear you could be interfering with the way it heals and making it worse. It can be a like scratching an itch when you have a wound or raw skin. & in most cases myofascial release shouldn't be over done. You want at least one day recovery between sessions for something that required a lot of pressure to release. So release on say Monday miss Tuesday, release on Wednesday miss Thursday ect ect. For older chronic problems that need to be worked harder you need even more time between sessions -up to a week.

As the others have said ,without an accurate diagnosis all we can do is guess.

Get a proper diagnosis first. If its a tear, look into TB500 or BPC-157. They are healing peptides and can dramatically reduce down time.
