How do you fix hip tilt in the pistol squat? If your not able to keep the hips level particularly at the bottom of the pistol (opposite hip rises - so L hip during a R leg pistol) what do you advise to fix?

Hello,

@Simply strong
I would consider two solutions:
- partial ROM: getting down as long as your hips are at the same level. Over time, it will build both strength and flexibility / mobility, so you'll be able to get down a little more and repeat the process until reaching full ROM
- a counter weight: you can use a weight on the "passive" side. Over time, you can reduce the weight.

Kind regards,

Just adding a word of caution.

Pistols are an interesting one. They are a great bodyweight goal and one I had myself. Once I had it and started to add reps or load I often found that the loaded flexion of the lower back was not an optimal lower back position for many and can cause discomfort.

Be wary of this.

You may want to try some basic hip & glute stretching before practicing pistols.

Ping me if you're not sure what those stretches may look like, and I'll put together a quick video...
