How's Your Health? What Medicines Do You Take?

EDIT: This post is in the Masters, 50+ years of age, section of the forum. While younger folks can reply, please clarify your age if you do. Thanks. END EDIT

I was talking to a relative on the phone, who said she had to hang up to get to the pharmacy before it closed because she was leaving on a trip and had to pickup up her medications.

This made me realize I don't take any medications on a regular basis. I do take some vitamins twice a day - perhaps those count?

The most common thing I've heard from others is blood pressure. My father had high blood pressure but my mother's was always low and I seem to have inherited from her side, plus I do mind my weight, eat moderately and well, and exercise regularly. I sometimes take my blood pressure after I get into bed at night - my wife does this as a form of biofeedback and it definitely helps her. Last night, mine was 105/59, pulse 47 - can't complain about that.

Hello,

@Steve Freides
I am lucky about health. I do not take medecines on a regular - meaning daily or so - basis. I do take some vitamines suplements if I need, for instance at the beginning of the winter, just to be sure I'll not have fatigue.

Otherwise, I believe in "Nature":
- I sleep more if I need to
- I eat more if I need to
- I do more physical effort if I feel I can do it (or need it), I rarely go in the red zone
- I do breathing, stretching to stay "functional".
etc...

Basically, all my lifestyle is based on how I feel and on body listenning and consciousness.

Regarding food, I eat:
- organic and lots of variety
- no processed food and almost no alcohol
- spices (cinnamon, etc...). They have lots of good properties
- I use a principle: "the more colors the better" (Japanese principle).

Most of the time, "poison is in the dose".

Kind regards,

Pet'

My health is very good. Cant remember when I was sick last time or took painkillers or similar.

Dont take any supplements.

My only issue is a herniated disc. Self inflicted. As long as I is mindfull about my movement it does not bother me.

I take daily vitmain D and fish oil and an antidepressant. I'm mainly posting about the latter as there is often a culture of "pill shame" around psychiatic medications which is largely unhelpful for people who need them.

If I could get more sun and not take my Vitmain D I would, but as they say "Winter is Coming."

Pre hypertensive but not taking anything yet - is very common in my family.

The only other thing I take with any regularity is Ibuprofen, which is also not good for BP...

It helps a lot with minor joint aches and I sparingly use it for that, but mostly it is the only medication that reliably helps my migraines if I can get some down as soon as the aura begins.

Oops! Sorry! That new post button always takes me to the stangest places.
The New Posts listing does, albeit in slightly smaller print, show the forum section each message is from. Not sure how it shows up on various mobile devices, though.

I'm 53 and take no medication. I am on a treatment with a doctor for bulging disks between my neck vertebrae. Went last week, and have my next appointment on December 21st.

Jan, have you read up on Robin McKenzie?

57 1/2 and I have been taking two prescription drugs daily for over twenty years. I have high cholesterol (hereditary), and high uric acid (leads to gout). Both are under control. And I have extensive blood work twice a year to make sure I'm not hurting my liver or other vital organs. So far so good.

And of course I take One A Day Men' Health daily.

Ever look into apple cider vinegar for gout?

@Jan, Robin McKenzie is a world-famous New Zealand physical therapist. His approach to treating back and neck pain is in wide use, and he is the author of "Treat Your Own Back" and "Treat Your Own Neck". (The two books can now be purchased, combined and updated, under a new title - something along the lines of "7 steps to a pain-free back and neck.")

Both are short books and highly recommended. Here's a 5-minute introduction:

No I haven't MattM. Can you give me any experiences you've encountered using this method? Would like to hear how this product is used or applied. When gout strikes me, it strikes like a vengence! Been there done that. Not a happy time.
