Kettlebell "I Achieved S & S Simple! Here's My Story"

I achieved Simple!

- 15 weeks of nothing but S&S
- 3,5 times per week

Pros
- I love that you can train once or seven times per week
- Low volume is great for me with limited recovery ability
- Quick, full body sessions
- The goblet opened up my hips.
- "Cured" my bad (herniated) back!
- Easy to adopt with other training

Cons
- Monotonus (for some)

For the first time in my life I´ve stayed on a program for more than 5 weeks. The results have been great! My body feels much stronger and I can move around with ease, pain free. Sometimes I was not longing for the sessions, but afterwards I always felt awesome! In the begining I wanted to add light presses, pull-ups and push-ups. Tried it but ditched them after one session. For me the goal was as much reaching Simple as it was to challenge myself by not adding other struff until Simple, trusting the author. That was the largest benefit of this journey!
Became a father 6 weeks ago, and prior to that The average sessions per week was a tad over 4 times per week. The toddler is time consuming! :D

The test session went well! Did swings every 30sec, and Get-ups by feel. Last set of swings wasnt crisp, but in chest height. The Get-ups was strong. I could repeat the feat today, but I wouldnt say I own Simple, yet.

Thank you @Pavel for this masterpiece!

Somewhat off topic... but @Steve Freides call to arms here inspired me, in addition to writing an amazon review, to finally ask my wife if she'd let me make up a program for her. After a brief stint going to the gym together when we were first married, she gave up training with me because she kept getting hurt, so she does her own thing. But, she's intrigued enough by what I'm doing these days... she said yes!

Time to put my money where my mouth is.... (y)

Male/Chinese/Programmer/45 yr/5'7"/145lbs

At age 40, I looked like a typical Silicon Valley computer programmer. I had a
PhD degree in computer science and 20 years of screen-staring under my belt. At
5'7" and 195 lbs, I had internally rotated shoulders, a forward head, slightly
hunched back, and a protruding belly. Decades of ignoring nutrition and health
had done its damage until one day my guardian angel (a nurse) called and told me
I was also pre-diabetic. So, I was literally fat, sick, and nearly dead.

Somehow, that phone call hit the spot and became the turning point. Thank God!

Fastward two years. I lost 50 lbs through diet and walking/jogging. Armed with
Pavel's Simple and Sinister, I started swinging a 16kg kettlebell (I had to buy
a 12kg for the Turkish Getup) early 2015 and achieved the Simple goal in the
sunny afternoon of Sat Jan 13, 2018. My weight and height stayed the same, my
body morphed and became more than twice as strong. It was like a dream.
Looking back, that book was one of the best deals I had in my life.

The biggest idea I learnt from Pavel (from his Tim Ferriss podcast) was the
concept of "practice." No need to worry about progress and obsess with goals;
just train and they will come. It's liberating. Not only has it helped me in
achieving Simple, I have successfully applied that idea in almost everything in
my life ever since. It's a magic word. I think I first saw it in college.

I took a mobility evaluation early 2016 with Mark Rifkind and went through a
one-day kettlebell course with Rik Garcia that summer. Both were great. Among
other things, I learnt about my posture problems. They hit when I started to
swing the 32kg a year ago.

Education also came in the form of reading the posts and early articles at
StrongFirst and I was inspired by people including Pavel, Rif, Steve Maxwell,
Steve Freides, Gabby Eborall, Pavel Macek, and so many others.

During kettlebell training, I made the happy discovery that I had a one-track
mind. So the next goal is Sinister. 48kg is unthinkable at the moment but so was
32kg three years ago.

BTW, did I say I was thankful!
Even if you didn't, I think we figured that out. :) Thank you for the kinds words, and congratulations on your achievement, @Wei Shi. And welcome to the StrongFirst forum.

(And don't forget my usual request - please post a review of S&S on amazon.com if you haven't already.)

Thank you, Steve! And I posted the review.

Great achievement @Wei Shi ! I'm also finding myself applying some of the SF principles to other aspects of life, you are not the only one
