Larry’s Logs

Today’s practice: 7/21/22
8.5 mile run with my cuz, she’s in town for an outing with friends. She used to live here and we would run all the time (she’s fast), so i picked up the pace a bit today too. And ignored Ll my data, was definitely above MAF and got into zone3/4 but it was fun running with her again.

I’ve been running all week with my Uber-fit nephews and their girlfriends who are all 20 years younger than me. I feel your ‘pain’…
Today was the first day back to normal.

Ya, she’s a trail runner from northern MI. It definitely made me reflect on how I used to train (hard and fast all the time, chasing strava segments, etc.). I did fine today and know i can do even more, but I was a bit tired and sore today. How sustainable would that be in the long term and is that why I broke my foot near the end of my training cycle last year? Keep those as every one in a whilers and just keep focusing on my aerobic base. Never be sore, always ready for battle.

16 mile run first thing, it was thunder and lightning when i woke up and i really didn’t want to go, made myself strap up and trudge through the rain for almost 3 hours…couldn’t find my pace and had lo mo but i got it done.

Hopping on the 9 minute challenge bandwagon. I’ve had it for a long time but never put it in full practice.

3 minutes of crawling, dead bugs and single carries, 9 minute workout.
Summer camp and schoolwork is crazy busy…two major project due this week and I’m supposed to leave for camping (no internet) friday…idk what all I’ll get done.
I’m in charge of this week’s summer camp (animal themed) and it seems to be all working out. Moments like this make it seem worth it, not everyone gets to work and be with their kids.

10 mile run first thing, 4 miles to the track, 2 miles on the track, 4 miles home. I did 400m repeats with 400m recovery jogs in-between. 400’s were averaging around a 7 min pace. The 4 miles home i did strides in the last 400m of every mile.

Was supposed to wake up super early and run further but I’ve been burning the candle at both ends and hit that snooze.
Warmed up with a bit of jumprope session since I knew I wasn’t going to hit my target distance.
Got in 11.25 miles after work though. Nice afternoon on a different than usual path.

Weekend camping trip with the family, so training suffered. Camping/packing does involve lots of loaded carries though. I also got in lots of beach/swimming time and lots of bags/washers. Spent a lot of time with my daughters on the high ropes course as well.
Yesterday’s practice: 8/1/22
4.5 mile run after we packed up/before we left.
Today’s practice: 8/2/22

Craziness going on lately, finishing up summer camp and prepping for the school year and finishing up my crazy summer university classes. Also had a friend’s memorial in Detroit this weekend, so i finally got some miles in back in the hometown.

15 mile run with the wife. Got hot out but we had the river keeping us cool, ran the perimeter of the island i grew up on and ran the bridge to the mainland. Finished off with a dip in the river.

Finally finished with my summer classes and summer camp and traveling (ahhhhhh).

Warm up is flexible steel based.

3 rounds of
Chin up x3
Hurdle raise x8 @20#
SLDL x5 @28k

TGU 5/5 @28k

Going to try to start getting this in once or twice a week to supplement and aid my running. Felt good.
