Less is More

Finally finished with my three weeks of certification training for my job. It was intense. Last week it was from home; I got in easy walks and GTG goblet squats. Waiting to hear if I passed!

Quite pleased with this. My body weight is 173, glad I could bench body weight for triples after such a long time away from benching in general, and the last 3 weeks off in particular for job training.

Since I am starting at the bottom again to spin up my powerlifting training, I started running with minimalist shoes. Very different. Had to focus entirely on my foot work, but my feet did feel energized and alive afterwards.

Went quite well. Keeping my jaw clenched into the mouthpiece and pulling myself down made everything smoother. The “tall spine” lessons I learned from S&S continue to pay dividends as do the mobility moves. I’m starting to think the running is helping too with the knees.

I tend to make the same mistake here I first noticed with the barbell squat - trying to get range of motion from turning out the knee instead of keeping the movement in the hips. Once corrected the lift felt phenomenal. The mobility work is helping.

This was a great training session. I did not know what to expect after the 5s x 3r squats yesterday, but I definitely had a better training session today than last Sunday. My swings were crisper, my get-ups were smoother, and my running stride was better.
