Hello,
Background : 41 years old desk worker that decided to desendentarize himself 10 years ago. At first using my martial arts background then slowly moving more and more from Chinese boxing to calisthenics and kettlebells. What was an addition to support the main activity slowly took the place of the main dish and for the last 4 years bodyweight work was my main activity. I discovered kettlebells and Pavel's work 2 years ago and since then I have been more and more hooked. S&S was my first introduction to a kettlebell program and was very consistently used accross these 2 years. At first kettlebells were just a nice addition to my main workout that were consisting of bodyweight and bar exercises... slowly they became more and more preponderant in my training until they became the matter of my training.
Though it might not come accross until now but I have never really been in search for changes or novelty, it is rather that one thing prepared the other and with a backwards look all seems to be quite connected.
My training style is very austere and focuses on a very limited number of proven moves as the core of my training session then I spice up with other stuff to keep the interest and the mind going. This was already the case with bodyweight where I ended my last yearly plan keeping only 4 moves (push up, pull up, squat, leg raise) split in 2 days for a year... By the way I didn't mention it yet but I train every day at times more than once a day. So I am using very long planning cycles, at first a couple of months but now I am basing myself on one plan per year. Also my year is not the "classical" calendar year starting in Jannuary with a "new year's resolution" but rather a September to September year . This is not because I am linked to teaching by any means rather because I like to have my projects started whenever I feel ready for it and generally the summer holidays mark a good time where one can take a distance to his day to day and think over his projects for the next period of time. So you might already have guessed that my current cycle is more or less towards the end of its first half. So why starting a log now ? for the sake of sharing with this community, I have visited and learnt a lot from here over the last years that I feel like it makes sense to start sharing stuff in turn. It might sound strange but I bought the Italian version of Simple and Sinister despite the fact that I have been practicing its content for the last 2 years from all I could already collect online but at this point I considered I had to pay back something indirectly to the author that made such an impact in my life.
Health, characteristics and limitations : generally speaking in very good health 182cm high, 90kg with a low enough bodyfat to have my midsection defined. I seem to be blessed with good recovery abilities which allow me to train quite hard often.
I have had a vascular issue in my head that lead me to be really prudent with some practice. Also I have discovered lately 2 things at the same time 1 to have completely wrecked wrists 2 to have absolutely no bone sensitivity to pain.
I also don't have regular access to a gym (at most I use hotel gyms when I travel) so I don't have all and everything I might want or need to progress my training or to test my max on some lifts. I have just a partial view on some stuff that I could test when I had the opportunity to and don't really think it is safe for me to go for my max. Also I am travelling a lot for work so I have to adapt to my environment very often because I might not always have what I want at hand
Training style : daily, not too intense but neither really that easy, some volume, minimalistic though with some variety built in. Main component are kettlebells, bodyweight and running
Main aim of training : being healthy and in shape. Might sound lighthearted but it is not really. The issue in my head requires me to be maniacal on my blood flow or I feel bad (already without aspirine I feel and act like I was tipsy) so being fat, overworked, stressed, without physical activity are NOT options. At least I am always motivated and avoid skipping even one session neither is there any form of slacking
Current project : One year of S&S . Sounds too much like a classic said like that so rather it is 12 months of S&S with 5 sessions per week (260 sessions over 52 weeks). No real goal in terms of weight etc but I started at 24kg and moved to 32kg after a couple of weeks (Simple was done in the first session with the 32kg). I don't really plan for Sinister but might move up if I decide to buy a bigger bell. As well there are a couple of accessory goals :
- run 1000 km in total
- do 20000 push ups
- do 5000 pull ups
These are not key but I would like to do them as well. So far after 141 days I am not in a bad position at all
I have let the bodyweight stuff behind on purpose because I prefer to train bodyweight outdoors and for now it is winter so not so great for this.
That is more or less it for an introduction !Feel free to ask questions if you want to
