Why are pistols always demonstrated with open hands and palms facing down? If tension and irradiation are the goal, are tightly clenched fists not better?

I can't speak to pictures, but I usually make a fist when standing up from a bw-only pistol.

@JZB

You can use fists, one palm on the top of each other, one palm pressing to each other (prayer position), very light gripper, stick that you attempt to break... many options.

Agree tension is used and many make fist. What did you read that said no fist? Would like to read what you are speaking of.

It was in all* the Naked Warrior photos of the pistol being performed. There's no demand of "no fists", but all the pictures show it as such.

*all the ones I remember at least, I don't have the book in front of me.

I like to make a fist at the sticking point as I'm coming back up - don't feel the need for it otherwise, and don't always do even that.
