Hi;

I'm currently doing S&S at 24kg (sometimes swings at 32kg), but at the end I add bent presses at said weight (24kgs), 5/side, once/day.

I vaguely remember someone saying that if you're doing both BP and TGUs, to do one light and the other heavier, and alternate between days.

Can one do both at the same weight, 5-TGU and 5BP, or indeed is it better to mix up the weight configurations?

Thanks in advance!

@Megatonsunshine with 24 neither get-ups, not bent presses are "heavy", but of course, heavy is relative.

Pavel wrote on the forum not so long ago:

...follow S&S; on some days replace the GU with the BtP. Use a different set/rep scheme than 5x1 for the BtP, e.g, work up in singles, then do a couple of back off triples.

Iron Tamer, Master SFG, Bent Press specialist extraordinaire, said some time ago: “The bent press finishes what the get up starts".

Why not meet the "Simple" standards first, and then do the program - or get Tamer's book and video Taming the Bent Press. Btw. the first program in the book is called B&T, Bent & Sinister.

Thanks for the reply, Pavel;

Sorry, I purposely avoided use of the word 'heavy', but used the word 'heavier' to only compare between both weights. :)

Anyways, thanks again.

That's why I wrote: heavy is relative. Saxon bent pressed what I deadlift :)

Enjoy your get-ups & bent presses!

I have done this with good success: practice heavy get up to the hand or bridge, then bent presses both 5x1+1 after the 100 or so swings as prescribed in S&S. It has allowed me to perform heavy get ups (48kg) for 10 total reps in under 7:30. The key is consistency, varying the load and not adding in any extra work for the sake of needless variety. Keep S&S as pure as written and the results come as promised.

David,

Patience is key. It will happen. Stick to it. Read Pavel Maceks training log and follow his success by staying the course.

Best,

Shawn

After meeting the simple goals a little while back I wanted a Break and I tried to do some bodyweight only stuff.
I think I will be returning to the S&S plan and doing the bent press.
Thanks for bringing this topic up.
