Anyone know what this is, or have experience with it
To be sure I understand - it's not a traditional hernia where the guts poke through your abs right?
If it's a sports hernia strain as described here ->
link,
" A sports hernia is a strain or tear of any soft tissue (muscle, tendon, ligament) in the lower abdomen or groin area."
then resting combined with corrective exercises such as brettzels, rib pulls, KB arm bars, 90/90 hip stretches, and yoga should help.
If it is a muscle tear surgery & PT may be the only option. With some kinds of muscle/tendon tears, you have a small window for surgery too before the torn tendon is no longer repairable. A pec tear, common in powerlifting, has to be corrected within a few weeks.
I've never been diagnosed with a sports hernia, but I've struggled with tight, immobile muscles in that area for years...adding those sorts of corrective exercises helped me a great deal in a short time.
Oddly enough I was at your brother's gym last weekend where he taught me those corrective exercises.
