Try keeping the press and deadlift on the original program if that's working. Modify the program by making the first set of 5 at 50% of working weight and second set at 75% following a few warm up sets.

Or, if you want to keep trying 5x5, only squat Monday and Friday. When I used 5x5 at working weight, I only squatted twice a week, with one of those days being a light day (Faleev 5x5).

For what it's worth, I've seen "lifters" at the gym give approval to unsafe, unsound form.
