Barbell Strongman - any competitors here?

I've just started training strongman, which is a massive gear change from my SF training of the last few years. I'm signed up to a competition next February so I have a big run up with my training.

I've got to say nothing is quite as satisfying as lifting up an atlas stone that seemed almost glued to the floor when you started.

Does anyone else around here train strongman or compete? It's early days for me yet but everything I've experienced playing with odd objects has been great fun.

I competed once back in 2001 and finished dead last. Lots of fun though, and the people were great!

I try to keep odd objects in my training. I like the primal, functional nature of lifting stones, sandbags, etc.

Competed in one comp (bodypower) and organised a few of the drug tested comps in the UK.

Always found training events tricky as take a greater toll on the body than standard lifts IMO
