Spend at least 60 seconds on each side, being very deliberate at every phase of the getup.

Once you get to that point, keep practicing until it becomes easy.

This is one of the safest ways to determine if you own the weight and are ready to move up to the next bell size.

 
Part of the journey towards owning the weight would be to be able to work up to a high level of control in the parts where you are most challenged.

So using myself as an example, if I can slowly do the roll to elbow and on the way down from kneeling windmill really go slow and exhibit strong alignment, I know I have command of the given weight
 
If your form is good and you're feeling confident. 2 or 3 on each side before switching hands is another good way to determine ownership. Or do 15 minutes of Get Downs and then Getups switching hands by either a snatch ore a clean and press. Try that with a 24, it's a killer
