Trying to be social about training

Thanks, it is weird that I thought a 32 kg get up was an insurmountable obstacle in August.

I have to watch that knee pain. It hurts on the back down to lunge position on the get ups and I nearly lost control of the bell on the on the 7th or 8th get up as a result.

My knee is fine, I was right it was superficial muscle pain and had nothing to do with the joint.
My form in the swing might not be as good as I think it is.

I have to watch my left wrist on the 32 kg get up. On the last part, lowering my elbow to the floor before the dismount, it always seems to bend back just a little to far. I can handle it with the 24 and I don't have this problem with my right hand. Maybe I should try to angle my elbow differently.

I couldn't make the get up with the 32 kg bell, so I stopped. I think I need two days of rest per week. Probably Wednesdays and Sundays. Or maybe just two-handed swings on Wednesdays and a full rest day on Sunday. At any rate, I have until next Wednesday to think about it.

I am tired and looking at Wednesday as a possible rest day again. My form on the swing deteriorates during the last half of the week. Maybe a variety day on Wednesday where I can do anything except swings and get ups as long as the intensity is kept low. I don't have all day for grease the groove type work.

Today it occurred to me that the obvious solution to always being tired at the end of the week is to switch to two-handed swings if I need to.

11 sets of 5 cleans and 1 press spread out over the entire day for:
Cleans: 55 R, 55 L. 24 kg
Presses: 11 R, 11 L. 24 kg

On the tenth set, I tested my clean and press:
Right: 5 felt good, but the sixth stalled halfway up and I didn't try to force it.
Left: 4 the last two involved a lot of side lean. I really wanted five clean and presses per hand.
I think this was a test of strength not skill, which is what I have been working on with all the cleans.

I really don't like prying goblet squats when it is raining. But, I may have tweaked my lower back by side hinging incorrectly in the get up. I should probably make a better effort to warm up properly. It is late in the afternoon as I write this; my lower back is fine. It is more my midback just under the floating rib. It feels like something I should be able to sleep off.

I let my mind wander too much this morning. This became a problem on my second get up with the 32 using my left hand. I overbalanced on the roll to elbow step causing me to drop a 70 lb object onto the ground about half an arm's length from my head. Finding my shoulder and the floor undamaged, I made the lift with my right hand, redid the lift on my left, and finished normally.

Coming into week 4 of a step cycle, I feel good about my ability to advance with the swings. I am, however, now scared s***less of 32 kg get ups. I really shouldn't be, I just proved that I could bail at the least stable part of the lift. Sunday 11/21/21 will be about 6 months since I started Simple and Sinister. That seems like a good time to reassess what I am doing.

I did full get ups with the 32, but my left leg leaves the ground far too often during the roll when the bell is in my right hand. My right leg stays down when the bell is in my left hand, and I don't have this problem with either leg when I am using the 24. I need to work on this.

Supersetted with bent over rows for 18 clean and presses and 18 bent over rows.

I started Simple and Sinister on May 21, so this is six months on S&S. I didn't feel like trying to test anything to see if I hit a milestone or something. I weigh about 222 lbs. I also took photographs in a mirror and compared them to the ones I took last April when I was first trying to guess at my body fat percentage. My belly is significantly smaller when viewed in profile, I have significant "shading" where my ribs end, the arch in my lower back is visible when I twist to 3/4 profile, and my torso is larger.

I am laying off of the clean and presses. I feel like I am on the verge of a breakthrough, otherwise I would have given them up last week. Recovering from Simple and Sinister is hard enough without the extra fatigue. 2x2 or four singles daily is alright, but what I am doing on Sundays is asking for injury.

Since my birthday was this past week, and I have been on Simple and Sinister for 6 months, I decided to retest my chosen baselines.

Clean and Press: R.7 L.5. 24kg
Military Press: R.5 L.3. 24kg
In all cases I came to a comfortable stop and did not, or try to, compromise technique to get more reps.
Swings: 12 minutes, 24 kg, 165 reps in a 5-10-15-20 pattern (at least a 5-10-15-20 pattern within reason) This 165 reps in 12 minutes had a much lower level of exertion then the 153 reps in 12 minutes at the beginning of October. I may have chosen a poor proxy for strength growth.

My left elbow is sore. Before I completely forgot when this happened, I switched to 32 kg pause at the bottom goblet squats last Thursday. I kind of wish I kept better track of the squats during the warm up. I don't know when I pried, I don't know when I curled, but I do know that I was using the 24 kg bell for a while.

My left leg left the ground rather badly when I attempted the first 32 kg get up on the right this morning. I seemed to lack coordination, so I decided to just finish up in the afternoon.

My form on the swings was horrible. I should have switched to two-handed swings. My left arm hurts because I could not get a good backswing with that arm.

I think I found the culprit, when getting the 32 kg bell into position for the goblet squats I was basically power-cleaning it into my chest, and that was aggravating my left arm. I switched to squatting first, curling the bell into position, and then squatting it.

Afternoon: C&P: 1 ladder to 3. 24 kg Front Squat: 45 lb bell, 24 kg bell. 1x5
For some strange reason I felt the need to prove my hypothesis correct by seeing what I could throw my body's way without hurting my left arm.

Amazing consistency. I can't believe you've done 185 S&S workouts, great stuff. I'm counting as well, currently at 22, so you're giving me something to aim for!

I felt good this morning.

Today I felt great. I wonder if this is that physical adaption that I was waiting for, or if it just took me that long to recover from over training.
