Patrick, in powerlifting most world champions who started training young peak in their thirties.  Some stay on top even in their forties: Naleykin won a world championship at 44, Gillingham at 46, etc.

If you started lifting later in life, you will peak later.

Regardless of the time of the peak, a well trained 70-year old will be stronger than most kids young enough to be his grandchildren.

In Olympic lifting one peaks a lot earlier, although there are some exceptions.  Both Vorobyev and Plukfelder won Olympics at 36-37 years old.

I do have to admit I have meet people who are very much older than me and they have one firm grip that could dwarf mine.
