Hey Guys and Gals,

My wife is starting with kettlebells so we are working through Chris Lopez's Advanced Fat Loss program and have already hit a problem. My wife has a bad wrist and cant do get-ups. She cant bend her left wrist much less put pressure on it. She can do Push-ups on her fists but she said get-ups put to much pressure on her fist. Any adivce on how she might try doing them or an alternative exercise would be greatly appreciated!!!

Craig

Sorry I didnt explain better, Not the kettlebell arm, the arm/wrist thats on the ground. The bridge is the most problmatic

Off the hip my initial thoughts are the following.

Check with Chris. Haven't met him in person but I know other SFG's that have worked with him that have nothing but good things to say about that dude.
Not knowing what the program entails could partial TGU's fit in the mix and just come up on the elbow until the wrist heals?

Let us know how it goes.

Craig, is that a medical condition? what are the recommendations and restrictions by the doc? Does holding a KB bother her wrist—or pushing off the ground with the other hand?

Hey Pavel!!!

It is sort of a medical condidtion. 2 different Specialists say 2 different things. the concensis was she could have surgery to possible fix one of the issues they think it could be but there is a 50% chance it could work and a 50% chance it could make it worse She opted for no surgery. They didnt give her any limitations, they just said if it hurts dont do it. She can swing, clean, and press bells just fine. She just cant do anything that is similar to a push up, so the issue is pushing off the ground during the getup not holding the bell. We are hoping that her wrist will get stronger and maybe that will help with the overall issue. Thanks Pavel!!!!

Craig, she might be able to use her fist to push off.  If it is too much load, have her try the tactical get-up; she would still need to use the fist but there would be less pressure.

You are correct it is to much of a load pushing off with the fist, have not tried a tactical get-up.  Is there a good video of a tactical get up? Not exactly sure what that entails! Thanks

Actually just saw an article on your website showing a tactical get up and that is the get up we were taught. Unfortunately fist isnt an option.

Craig, here is a style that puts very little pressure on the down arm.

Its very important to learn how to properly shin roll (a natural movement that babies do) before attempting it. You will wreck your knees if you don't learn this skill. Once you do, this is an awesome getup variation that sounds like it may work for you...

Thanks Man, I think that is perfect! I really think she will be able to do these. Thanks a lot for the help!
