I know generalization can be dangerous, but I have now had two primary care physicians who were Doctors of Osteopathic medicine (DOs), and for the sort of active, healthy person who hangs out here, I recommend investigating. In my experience, they have been more oriented to prevention and less likely to look at me cross-eyed when I describe my exercise interests and routines. I hate the word "holistic," but their view of health indeed seems to be exactly that relative to MDs.

I had a checkup today with my doc and among other things we discussed kettlebells and powerlifting. He has become a KB enthusiast and used to powerlift. I took a quick look at him and said "you had a good bench and you deadlifted sumo." He laughed and said, yep exactly. He said he's been learning kettlebells from YouTube but was concerned about the instructional quality (cue Dan John) ... I gave him some of Pavel's book titles and told him to check the site out.

the practice I go to (with an osteo, and several kines) is very supportive of my KB and CC work...it probably helpen they saw my shape before I started being active :)

my last visit the kine even asked for more info on the stuff I do as his interest got triggered, and he'd like to help me get the most out of it.....working with him on correcting a hip issue atm that popped up.....my general physician bought some KBs after seeing what it did for me....so al in all no reason to complain for me, seems the medical people I chose to go to are generally open-minded and supportive :)

Rob,   I agree, my Doc is an athlete and was one in college! He is not a DO he is an MD but he understands training and the people who do it. I know that my confidence in him stems from the fact that he has intuition into how I think and feel due to the fact that we have similar ideas regarding fitness and training!

My Doc is not only a D.O. but also a Sports Medicine specialist. Comes in handy when you are a full contact fighter...
