Curious thing occurred last night.

I had picked up my trumpet, after 15 years of non practice, and found I could hit, with relative ease, the same high notes as before, and a little higher.

After thinking about it, I realized trumpet note playing is essentially the valsalva maneuver + lip muscles. My lips were on fire, but I had breath to spare.

Anyway, thought this might be amusing.

@Paul Nathan, strong fixes many things. Playing a brass instrument is a strength-endurance activity, and the more you do it, the less it becomes about strength in the player's mind.

@Snowman, it is an interesting subject. I talk to my music students about lifting sometimes, but I don't talk to my lifting students about music much. For me, they are opposite ends of a continuum of tension.
