I've been doing Zercher Squats lately - nothing terribly difficult just yet, kind of finding what feels heavy and, when I get there, I'll organize my training more.

Even light ZSQ, though, are hitting my quads in a way the barbell FSQ never quite did.  Somehow I managed to "fake" my way through the sticking point in my FSQ with hips and glutes but the ZSQ starts right at the sticking point - nowhere to hide.

No science claimed here,  just my personal experience, and I'm curious to know if anyone else has a similar reaction.

My best FSQ single is 185 lbs.  Today's ZSQ workout was singles at 155, 175, 195, and 215.  Bodyweight is 150 lbs., age 58, best DL is 345 lately, 365 lifetime.

Steve, muscles are lazy and like to turn on only when they have good leverage.  Your leverage probably favors the posterior chain—while the Zercher somehow redistributes the load and hits the quads.  Great news!

Great news, indeed. :(   I will, as you say, enjoy the pain of finding my long-lost quads.
