I am a strength and conditioning coach that specializes in hardstyle kettlebell training. I use kettlebells because they have the unique quality of integrating metabolic conditioning and strength training very effectively. I also train and coach using free weights and body weight exercises. In addition, I’ve long been a mountain and road cycling enthusiast and have developed very effective HIIT Spinning programs. I completely subscribe to the StrongFirst credo that strength training is a skill and as such deserves constant study and practice. Obtaining measurable results in as safe and effective manner as possible is my goal. And when life throws an injury or limitation your way, knowing how to work-around and eventually eliminate where possible those limitations leads to more understanding, greater performance, and ultimately better overall fitness. I work mainly out of my own gym, Small Box Fitness, though I’m available for training students at other locations.

I sought out Dan earlier this summer in the midst of COVID and smoke in the Santa Cruz area which made it difficult to ride with road cycling friends. I had heard from an avid biker that kettlebells could provide needed conditioning. I had some skepticism that quad and core strength could be increasing by throwing a little heavy ball around, but Dan has helped me become a believer. I am frankly amazed how good I feel after a kettlebell workout. The cardio was a bonus,,I’m a tough 64 year old woman and those things really get my heart pumping! Dan is thorough, tough when needed, precise, kind and encouraging. A real pro. Important to note, I consider his studio and practice COVID safe, and during our individual sessions we have no problems wearing masks and using sanitizer! If you have any inkling about trying out Kettleballs, give Dan a ring.
