Birthday Training Session Ideas

I have a birthday coming up - 49 - and was planning 49 get ups with some swings for good measure.

Any other good ideas for a birthday training session?
You could do the Filthy 49 - like the Filthy 50 but 49.

  • For Time
  • 50 Box Jumps (24/20 in)
  • 50 Jumping Pull-Ups
  • 50 Kettlebell Swings (1/.75 pood)
  • 50 Walking Lunge Steps
  • 50 Knees-to-Elbows
  • 50 Push Presses (45/35 lb)
  • 50 Back Extensions
  • 50 Wall Ball Shots (20/14 lb)
  • 50 Burpees
  • 50 Double-Unders
You could also modify that to 49 of whatever - 49 pushups, 49 pull-ups, 49 goblet squats, 49 swings ... etc... and then just make sure you get 490 total reps.

Thank you John. So 10 exercises with 49 reps each...sounds brutal but fun!

Taking the day off from intense training. Mobility, joint health work, a nice walk, all to leave you feeling ready for the 364 days to come until you turn 50.

Something I've done before is take all the kettlebells I own and perform TGUs from light to heavy and back down again.

I'm coming up to 55 in the summer and was reading @Geoff Neupert email about strength standards the other day, which gave me an idea to try the following as 24kg =55lbs.

[1] 10 sets of 5 reps Double Clean + Press with 2x24kg in 20 minutes or less

[2] 10 sets of 5 reps Double Front Squat with 2x24kg in 20 minutes or less

[3] 10 sets of 10 reps of 24kg Snatches in 10 minutes (that’s 5 sets of 10 each side)

Use the 49 GU's for a warm-up, then with dbl's

C-P-SQ-SN-J-Push-Up-Pull-Up 7 rounds, you could go light and do 7 reps of each, or add a vest to the push-up and pull up and go heavy for singles.

A while back I made a goal of squatting bdwt on the barbell x # of reps equal to my age. It was a good goal and I'll probably try to do it again sometime.

You could try 49 squats w. dbl kettlebells - probably would be quite tough even w. lighter weights.
