Getting Artificially Strong (and complaining about Cardio)

Never managed to tie or beat 1.1’s 12 rounds. Pretty happy with Giant, still committed to running it into the ground. No rep max testing, just going to hop into 3.0 with the 60s on Tuesday.

Managed to tie the first day of 3.0 with the 24kgs, so goal achieved. These felt heavy, my middle back was screaming more than my shoulders. Excited for this to feel as light as the 24kg did!

Starting Hal Higdons 30 week to marathon plan tomorrow. I have been s*** consistent with my cardio, should probably retitle this log if I don’t get it together.

Kicked it off, 30 weeks out from the Vegas Rock n Roll Half Marathon. 95 degrees on the run, felt like melting and felt way too fat to be jogging. Crazy how much of my endurance I lost, hopefully it rebounds quickly.

I forgot what a cardio sesh these high round singles become. My back was tired as f*** from all the hiking and parking of doing singles, but this was doable. Beat my best total from the 24's, I think I can hit 100 rounds.

Ran this outside, 100 degrees ambient and on top of asphalt so it was hot. I'm a bit surprised I'm faster in the streets than the treadmill, maybe the misery of the heat is motivating.

Lost ten rounds this week, I think I just wasn’t as mentally strong. On these high round singles it’s much more about embracing the suck then muscle/technique failure. Lost four total reps on the week compared to week one, first time that has ever happened I think. Hopefully a strong rebound next week!

Bought easy muscle and have been reading it. I’m going to add in Giant 1.05 (Schedule A Phase 2). Schedule B Phase 2 has a rep pattern that would work well for a 3.1, debating on whether to add it or not. That would make the program 28 weeks with every weight, but I also think it would make sure I hit my eventual goal of giant with 80s. We will see how this 3.0 shakes out.

These runs are finally starting to feel semi alright, but I’m still over a ten minute mile which is a bit disheartening lol.

A one round PR, the sets of two are so far the only day that’s moving forward at all. Went back to every thirty seconds with a round off as needed and that seems to be the best strategy. The longer rest gives more recovery than a micro longer rest every round.

A one round PR. I thought PRs would be easy to come by like the round of 24s, but I think I’m getting way closer to my potential on the first week than I had previously. I’m gonna have to throttle down my goals when I start 1.0 to be realistic lol. I had a stretch goal of 36 rounds for this and that is a pipe dream lol

This day is continuing to slip on me. 93-83-76, first time this has happened to me in Giant. I’m still seeing increases on the higher rep days so I’m not too concerned but it’s interesting. My total weekly reps are staying pretty constant, slight decrease.

Finally beat my week one total reps!! Crazy to me that I hit 93 singles in week one and then just plummeted from then on for the singles. I think being at the end of the week and running the half marathon plan is just draining me a bit. Oh well, eventually my work capacity will catch up. Excited for 1.0 and to not have to do singles for six months ish lol.

Almost pushed the workout off as I didn't feel like it, but it came together and was a pretty good sesh. I need to wake up earlier to get my runs done, it was already 107 and no shade for the run which made it a truly brutal affair. I am going to be a bit optimistic with my goals for this one, 22 rounds with a stretch goal of 24 rounds.

One round PR. Good flow on this, every press was automatic and like I could do five reps every two minutes for forever. I’m feeling really strong right now and it’s clicking, hopefully the feeling stays around. I am gaining on my diet, or lack of, at 233 which is my heaviest ever.
