Bodyweight Squat Muscle Activation

For retraining body weight squat mechanics, is there a certain muscle activation pattern that should occur during the ascent phase? I was cued to activate the hamstrings and avoid using the glutes to initiate the ascent phase when starting from sitting on a chair. If anyone has any resources to learn more about this, I'd truly appreciate the information to learn about this further as well.
