Annoying form breakdown (Squat)

Illegal in any federation.
I'm not sure that's true anymore Steve. I mean, I think if you can't stand upright w. the bar, that should be clearly illegal, but people are (apparently) doing this more and more. I'll start a separate thread about it because I was in the middle of writing something about how-low-can-you-go-low-bar-squats for the zine anyway.

From the USPA rule book

The lifter shall assume an upright position with the top of the bar not more than one bar width below the center line of the medial deltoid.

I'm interested to see video that you think violates this rule but I note that I have no clue how one finds the center line of the medial deltoid.

The WPO has pretty much the same depth rules for squats as the IPF but I'm pretty sure everyone is aware of them passing squats that are a mile high. I don't know if it's the same case for French low bar, but just because it's in a rule book doesn't necessarily mean that judges won't let some things fly that shouldn't.

The IPF wants the bar on the shoulders of the lifter. But it's not always an easy rule to follow. The USPA rule sounds even worse in that sense.

The low bar placement has become something of an issue for some. I'm not sure if it's such a problem. Anyone can improve their mobility and no one has equal bodies anyway.

Then again, I'm fine with the new bench rules by IPF. But that hasn't been picked up by any other fed, has it?

Looked like he was competing in the end of the video... Also says in the video that he squatted 440lbs using that technique in competition.
My big takeaway from the last thread on this topic was it's up to the judges at the comp. People on the internet have opinions, but their opinions don't actually matter when it comes to the actual judges interpreting the actual rules.

Well it wasn't an opinion that people are indeed competing with French low bar, so I'm not sure why you're telling me this? People are entitled to their opinions and yeah it is ultimately up to what the judge decides, but that doesn't mean rules don't change, for example the new bench rules in IPF.

There are places on the Internet where you can get opinions that matter, e.g., I participate in a USPA group on Facebook and some of the participants are judges and they readily offer their opinions.

I'm sure you don't mean this to sound the way it comes off Steve.

I don't know why everyone seems riled up - we are ALL just trading opinions here (whether you're competing, judging, sponsoring the USPA, IPF, WPO, WTF or whatever).

Anywho, Metaldrummer - I think your latest videos look pretty solid to me.

@silveraw said, "People on the internet have opinions, but their opinions don't actually matter when it comes to the actual judges interpreting the actual rules" and I offered a place on the Internet where those opinions do matter because they are from actual judges, some at the highest levels. Nothing more and nothing less than that was my intention. It's good to note places where one can get valuable advice for free; this forum is one such place and that USPA group is another.
