Hello,

What is your opinion - could the bent press be used instead of side press together with the deadlift in Pavel's PTP programme?

Edgars, yes—but you will need to change the programming.  First, work up to a heavy single, then do some back-off sets.

E.g., if 50kg is your max, do side press 20kg x 5/2 sets; bent press 25kg x 1, 30x1, 35x1, 40x1, 42.5x1, 45x1/3 sets; 35kg x 3/3.

Agreed. Multiple reps with the barbell in the bent press can be tricky after it gets over about 60% of your 1RM.

To add to what Tamer has said, feel free to use a dumbell or kettlebell for the back-off sets.

Many thanks Pavel and Tamer for advice!

For bent presses, I am using a heavy dumbell which I can load up to 63 kg and kettlebells - I hope I do not necessarily need a barbell.
